So here's the super cool idea, inspired by IndieKombat and Pippy's post- http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=18758

Who would be interested in doing a succession round game jam?
(If you don't know what a succession round is, look up Dwarf Fortress & Boatmurdered, or read this http://lparchive.org/Dwarf-Fortress-Boatmurdered/Introduction/)

The premise would be that each person would get a specific amount of time to work on the game, then pass it on. That person could be an artist, coder, jack of all trades, whatever. Each person is given full creative reign on the project when they have it.

We would probably need to have a few of these going, in different frameworks (so everyone could participate). But, if we were to do a starting one, any suggestion of development framework? I would propose Unity due to its ease of use, and because there is a pretty big community.

It depends if it would be 3d or 2d. I prefer c++ + SFML ( but allegro and sdl are fine too ) in Visual 2k10 or Game Maker.
I don't know unity.

One has to be Flixel 2.0. It's a robust framework that can be picked up easy. I love it.

I've also made games in love2d, plain flash AS3.0-AS1, irrlicht/c++, SDL/c++, pygame, canvas HTML5 and BASIC. So I should be able to participate if Flixel doesn't get chosen. I just realized how long that list was, but others probably have similar lists.

When does the themes get announced? or does the first person choose it or what? do the succeeders get chosen randomly or have to join an official team?

All arguments aside, we can't pick a perfect development kit for this.
If we ever do this, we would need it to be specific to a type of developers.

AKA a Flash/Unity/Python/GM/Lua competition would work, but only if it is focused on that framework.

Maybe there will be 5 teams, each with other framework?

Perhaps? It really comes down to what frameworks are most agreed upon. This idea may be best suited for groups that are connected by a framework, such as the Unity/GM/AS forums.

I'd go for Game Maker, simply because it is extremely user friendly, and because making something in 3D (Unity) might be a bit over-ambitious.

I would be somewhat interested in this though I probably wouldn't want to spend more than 1 or 2 weeks, especially not knowing what the game is yet! Anything C++ or unity is fine with me, might be able to figure out other frameworks.

This sounds cool. I've never used Unity, but I'm always looking for excuses to learn new tools and tech, so I'd be up for anything format/framework wise (so long as its free...).
