This game is probably the largest and most complete independent effort I’ve released to date.  It's a crossover between Metroid and Blaster Master.  I used my own game engine which is open sourced and this game really takes full advantage of it's features.  It's pretty much finished but I could use some beta testers and feedback about gameplay, difficulty, etc.  Keyboard/Mouse and Xbox 360 controls are supported.  It should run pretty well on low end PCs.

the manual doesn't mention that the pause screen is also the full map screen

yellow-red stuff at the bottom of your screenshots damages me but looks like harmless grass

how do i open red doors?

what does "EN" mean?

This is fun. My favorite part is watching my sad little wheels roll off, each time I run out of english...

I kinda dig the concept. Seems to be implemented solidly enough. Had some fun with it.

Might wanna think about including the needed dll's in the package. Was a pain to have to search them out and download them.

Thanks for the feedback so far.

ortoslon:  I suspected some of that.  I will add to instructions about the pause shows map.  EN means energy I think.  It's sort of an inside joke because that's how the energy was presented in the original metroid.  Hopefully players will quickly deduce it's function.  I will try to make the grass more menacing, it's supposed to look like the deadly weeds in the very first area of blaster master, but they don't look dangerous either.

Paul Eres: Good a guess as any.

Golds: Thanks, how far did you get?

maxwell: Haha, so are you dying a lot?  I've having trouble gauging the difficulty.

moshboy: You should have just updated DirectX.  A while ago I experimented with including a distributable of DirectX but that makes the download size way bigger.  So instead I just build with a version of DirectX that is like 2 years old, usually most people have a recent enough version that it just works.  Also I looked and there's no way I could find to change the "missing DLL" error message to something more descriptive.

Love both original NES games, cool idea but using the sprites from Metroid itself kind of takes me out of it a bit.

Del_Duio: I'm mostly concerned with gameplay right now, sprites can easily be swapped out.  I just don't have the time for it, but if any artists are interested in doing a sprite pass email me some samples.  Can you better describe why the reuse of sprites detract you from playing?  I feel like it's the same concept as musicians who create mashups reusing other songs.
