TIGJAM UK
Date: 15-17th July 2011
Venue: CB2 Bistro, Cambridge.

A weekend of making games.  Everyone welcome, regardless of experience, so long as you're willing to get your hands dirty Smiley

People will be about from 10am on the Friday, but Friday being a weekday, people will be arriving all through the day.  There are usually plenty of people hanging about for the Monday after as well

Get tickets here:
http://tigjamuk5.eventbrite.com/

£10 each, which will be banked and go towards finding a more interesting venue for next jam Smiley

See CB2 here: http://www.cb2bistro.com/
You'll be expected to buy food and drink at the venue.

Accommodation:
The YHA hostel in Cambridge is super convenient - very close to both the train station and CB2! £19.00 per night - Draknek is organising rooms on this thread:
http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=19930.0

Transport:
The event is within walking distance from Cambridge Train Station.
It's easy to get to Cambridge from Stanstead airport, and you can travel up from London Kings Cross or London Liverpool St rail station.

Any questions?

Rough idea of what goes on at the jam:

Lo
I take it it's not like a Game Jam though where you get a theme, so I was wondering if people typically do collabs or continue work on something they've already started or wha? I have some small game ideas I'd love to make to take a break from what I'm doing atm, or even helping people out, although I don't know how much help I could be!
Ok, so there're roughly three streams of activity going on in a jam at any point at previous tigjam uks -

1: mini-jams - we tend to have a bunch of three-hourly jams (3/4 a day), themed (pick three themes out of a hat, people can chose any of them, or none, to make a game from).  Some people participate in lots of these over the course of the weekend, either alone or in collaboration.  Most people won't do all of the jams, but most will participate in a few.  Some will keep on working on the mini-jam games well past the 3 hours.
2: people working on pre-existing projects
3: people talking/eating/&c.

#1 has generally been the main focus of the jam.  So yeah, if you have small ideas you'd like to try out, this would be a good environment in which to prototype them Smiley

The cafe only opens at 9:45, if you get in to cambridge earlier you can hang about yourself or get a bus out to our flat (which is on a direct bus-route from the train station).  Mail me at [email protected] if you want instructions.  But it might be as entertaining to just wander around cambridge.

With a hectic work and social schedule I've not been to any of the Cambridge meets in a while so I am gonna make damn sure I'm there for this.

Some possibilities:
Make art assets that could be scanned (photographed) and used in a game
Draw stuff for card/board games (I promise to make at least one!)

I'm thinking of rounding up a gaggle of like-minded chums and popping along (we're all Cambridge-based).

Never been to anything like this before, and I'm still fairly green at indie development in general, so I suppose two obvious questions come to mind:
  • Is there anywhere I can read about what has gone on at previous TIGJAM events? Pictures would be amazing!
  • Does it matter that most of the people in my group would be fairly amateur-level at most aspects? I'd rather not spend a whole weekend pissing people off by being stupid.

EDIT: Just realised I posted on the TIGJam UK3 thread asking the first of those questions. Consider it answered.
