can we just say "pan's labyrinth" though because honestly that sounds better than "the labyrinth of the faun" and its original language equivalent in my gratuitously english-speaking head
fucking mind you it's an incredible movie regardless of its name
del toro really hasn't managed to better it yet. part of that is he hasn't really tried (pacific rim, for instance, is great, but it's a far simpler pleasure)

If hellboy didn't wear leather pants that might be in the running. Not with those pants though. Fuck that.

Hellboy has the greatest set design.
Oh and my favorite movie is probably somewhere between Eternal Sunshine, Melancholia, or anything directed by Terry Gilliam. (kinda noticed no one brings him up very much around here)

Hmm my favorite movies are probably Chungking Express and Blade Runner (the final cut).
About Del Toro, Pan's Labyrinth was ok but I hated that little girl. She was really fucking annoying. Hellboy movies suck but they LOOK perfect, which makes me sad because I like the comics.

I'd say The Fountain is my all time favourite. Cried like a baby even tho it was in a cinema. Aranofsky writes and directs good movies overall but this is definitely his masterpiece (with Pi not far behind).

For me it's a toss up between Life Aquatic by Wes Anderson and Raise The Red Lantern by Yimou Zhang. I say toss-up because I haven't seen Raise The Red Lantern in years and I may not enjoy it as much if I watched it now. Hellboy has the greatest set design.
Haven't seen it but you may have just convinced me to. I'm a total sucker for practical effects and good set design. I watched Dune recent-ish and the beautiful set design was the only good part of that movie for me.

how so? Idk, she just seemed to be a complete idiot. I guess that's what they were going for, "the first casualty of war is innocence", but come on. There's no way a child that age would act like that. Well the movie's based in the 40's and it's spanish so what do I know.

its a 2 hour long version of the top gun volleyball scene interspersed with cgi robots standing in waist deep water doing insanely slow pro wrestling moves
