If the new Tomb Raider can be called just Tomb Raider, I don't see why the new Spelunky can't do the same.

I think it's more of an HD remake with tons of more awesome shit than a direct sequel to the original version.
Imagine seeing "Spelunky HD" everywhere, no one wants to see that.
I can't imagine there being too much confusion about the original and the new version, if/when it comes to PC. Simply due to the fact that one was a non-commercial freeware game and the other is a commercial game that is very distinguished in style. Also, I would imagine, that if/when the game comes to PC it will be released on at least one of a variety of sales platforms like Steam, GoG, Desura, Humble Store, etc.
I'm glad the title is Spelunky. It's a good enough name to encompass both games.

Just came to post that stream. I am spoiling myself like crazy, but I can't stop watching. All the new stuff is amaaaaaaaaaaaazing. The way other players can interact with stuff as ghosts (and the Bubble Ghost reference), Pugs ... this is a perfect update. I hear the controls have been tweaked well too (probably the only issue I had with the freeware version).
EDIT: I wonder how much sacrifice value the corpses of other players have.
EDIT 2: Don't think I like how much more fragile damsels are now. It was fun abusing them by throwing them into dart traps and still getting a kiss.

Wow, I just spent my evening playing this in co-op with two friends and it was fantastic. One of those games that gets you pumped up and screaming at the TV without how wild & crazy it is! I love it!
