Was playing this with my girlfriend today, and we had a total blast. Mostly she plays Pokemon, but I thought Spelunky would be a good fit based on the style and pretty low learning curve.
We booted the game up, and she was totally into the style and graphics. We decided to adventure together, me picking the default Spelunky character (who I call Spelunky haha), and she picked the female in blue. We jumped right in, I explained the controls, and we just started to immediately have a blast.
We played for about three hours straight, and we didn't get past world 1-3 once, but that didn't really matter. Every time one of us died, set off an artifact trap, or knocked us out from whipping, we just couldn't help but laugh. We eventually turned the damsel into the pug, which was the best thing I've ever seen.
The co-op is where this game shines. The way it brings together the people playing is simply amazing. Immediately at the start of each level we'd be shouting commands and figuring out where to go next. I really loved that aspect. Playing three "levels" for three hours sounds really boring on paper, but it was far from it. Each time we had a new experience and new things happened.
Specifically, I set off a bomb to save the pug and it ended up making a moveable block fall down and crush the dog. It was beyond terrifying and hilarious.
Bottom-line, playing Spelunky with others is awesome.

:D JOY!!
Those dark rooms are REALLY REALLY DARK!! Even with the torch, I couldn't see spikes two tiles below my position... anybody else have that issue?

3) Everything but the music is a great enhancement of the original. The music isn't bad, but I miss my classic Spelunky tunes.

ice levels seem to be pretty easy. i have trouble getting through the forest but every time i do, i get to the temple levels. need to unlock that ice shortcut.
dark forest levels are just endgame for me

Best run so far was 4-3. So close!
Had one of those moments that made my jaw drop. In the jungle, a wayward red frog blew up one of Kali's altars. I was gliding down towards it with a cape, when one of the spiders hit me. My stunned body was still slow falling, bouncing off each of the spiders, juggling me and killing all of them. That run still ended thanks to the ball and chain though.

I'm really confused about one of my deaths today. I was in the black market, holding a boomerang, figuring out what I wanted to buy. A bat flew into the shop, and as I was ready to retreat, the shopkeeper said something like "Hey, you can't do that in here," and shot me full of lead. All I did was walk a little bit. Did the bat trigger something? Maybe something else happened offscreen. Not sure as I have never seen a shopkeeper say that phrase. He usually just calls me a terrorist  |
