...stairs would have to ascend one block height to get into the ceiling space, another block height to get into the floor space of the room above, and another block height to get into the room itself. = 3 block heights. ...
Dwarf Fortress -like solution on z-levels could work nicely. Wall and floorlevels are separated. And it would make more sense in a interior focused context http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/40d:DiggingSry for short answer cause I'm bit in a hurry

This game is looking pretty slick, the visuals have that sort of "creepy attic" feel to them and the smooth depth transition give it an almost surreal sense of space warping. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out in motion. In any case, keep up the good work!

So... what about instead of bears it was a haunted attic?
I like that idea much better (unless maybe they are undead bears or phantom bears).

That was actually a joke... the undead bears that is. But yeah, I agree. I love me some zombies but there's not enough video game love given to ghosts, poltergeists, and all things haunting.

I prefer horror to be psychological.
Also, I don't think there's a need of bears here.

I actually really want this to be a scary game where bears chase you through a giant, mazelike attic.

The bears play piano, too? In all seriousness, lots of great atmosphere. Even your choice of words makes the whole thing a little more unsettling.

Some suggestions: If possible shade the concave corners and highlight the convex corners. Other than that, this game is looking awesome!

program in bear droppings. you should be able to tell where the bears are by seeing their poop.
