This thread was originally created for the Beta test, and has now been updated for the public Demo - scroll down to reply #2 for that. What follows is the original Beta post.

Geo Breaker is a block breaking game with 3 different game modes, done by me and DarthMasta. The gameplay is a mixture of Breakout with air hockey and pinball, where the player actively controls the ball doing mouse swings in the direction he chooses, breaking blocks and growing his score.
The ultimate goal is to put the game on as many digital download PC platforms as possible, as well as porting to WP7 and iOS (it's an XNA game).

We went for a vintage americana look, as you can see from the screens and font. As outlined, the game has 3 modes. These are:

+ Challenge: play over 150 pre-built levels, across 5 Worlds of increasing difficulty with special blocks with specific abilities. Unlock the next level, increase your score, and progress through the end. For the purpose of this Beta, we have 12 maps.

+ Survival: on a randomly generated map, destroy the most blocks you can in the least amount of time. Every 30 seconds or so, the map will reshuffle and new blocks will be added. The more time you last, the bigger your score multiplier!

+ Match-5: here, you play on a randomly generated map, and try to match 5 blocks according to different combinations, increasing the level and its difficulty.

We want feedback on the game, thus we decided to do this Beta!

Play it and please give us feedback on what you think of the game, problems you find, potential improvements to the gameplay, visual direction, map layouts, blocks that work and others that don't, pretty much whatever you want to say. You can give feedback here or register at our forum and post there.

Here are some screenshots of the game, bearing in mind everything is a work in progress.

The feel of breakout with pinball and air hockey wasn't quite there for me. It felt more like enclosing breakout while adding slingshot gameplay. There wasn't the feel of a ball rolling on angle like in pinball (no board friction and the gravity lacked a z-axis) nor was there the puck hitting of air hockey or breakout.

Maybe you could use something like an air hockey mallet instead of the sling shot mechanic. Although, that would probably require replacing the levels you have with new ones for a more complimentary level design for the new gameplay.

I've enjoyed several breakout variations throughout the decades. So, I hope you can improve this one enough to help me enjoy it more.
