Not exactly sure where to put this, but business seems fine.

I've found a font that I'd like to use for my game.
http://www.dafont.com/hf.d1901

It's free, but I can't find any specific notes on the license or whether I can use it in a commercial project. The download contains nothing more than the font file itself. I sent the creator a message over Dafont, but this is his only font up, and it was made in 2008 or something, so I'm not expecting any reply. I can't find any email address.

Does anybody know what to do?

I saw this in the comments, it's from 2010:

 Well, for those who want to use this font: It's totally free, so you can use it however you want Smiley... but I'd like to see what you do with my font :B

I'd also urge looking at the disclaimer on the site:
Quote
The fonts presented on this website are their authors' property, and are either freeware, shareware, demo versions or public domain. The licence mentioned above the download button is just an indication. Please look at the readme-files in the zips or check the indicated author's website for details, and contact him/her if in doubt. If no author/licence is indicated that's because we don't have information, that doesn't mean it's free.

In the future, I'd suggest trying to contact the author (it feels wrong to say that the person who creates a font is its author) in cases like this.  If that fails and there is no information about the license, then I don't really know what you should do, to be honest.  The safe option would be to only use a font for which you are sure of the provenance.

DaFont has a search function with which you can separate open-source-licensed fonts from the "personal use" ones.

yeah the rule of thumb is if you don't know, contact the author for explicit permission. don't be afraid of emailing people

@Paul Eres & Fallsburg:
That's the problem. I couldn't find an email (but sent him a PM over Dafont, where I provided my own email, and asked him to reply there [but I will check Dafont again, just in case he answered there anyway]).

@SundownKid:
Yeah. This one just said 'free'.

@PompiPompi:
Where did you find that? On Dafont? Weird thing I didn't see it. Embarrassed
