Hello there!

Forest Defense is a Tower Defense / Platformer hybrid game that can be found at: http://forestdefense-game.blogspot.com/p/home_23.html

There's also a downloadable demo there so do try it please! Smiley

Here's a screenshot too:

Now, I'm Okkwogg, designer and coder of Forest Defense.
The artist that was working with me has recently left the project for personal reasons and now I need someone to take his place. My budget is kind of low so my new plan is to work on the art myself and hire a freelance animator for the animations.

Most animations are quite simple fortunately and will need to be around 15 frames long. There are also a few complex ones though.

So if you like what you see and would be interested in working with me please let me know your fees on a per animation basis. I can also offer a share of what we earn with the game as a plus.

Well, any questions you might have please do ask me!
If you're interested you can mail me at [email protected] or follow me on Twitter.

Thanks for reading!

Good project, but I don't think profit share is considered Paid Work.

Paid Work = straight, up-front payment.

EDIT for below: I'm not going to argue with you, but the fact is that on delivery, there is zero cash. Ergo, no pay. Thus, unpaid.
But everything can be picked apart semantically, of course.

Well I don't think it falls into the Unpaid category either. -> Unpaid Work:
If you're looking for someone to partner up with to make something just for fun

I just think of it as another payment method.

It's all about how you market your idea, and then market your game. Having a playable demo, plus showing signs of continuing development, is a great way of saying "hey look, this one's going to get finished" and you're likely to find help, even for profit-share. Eponasoft has not sold a game yet (we're still at work on our first public title), yet I had little problem filling contracted positions under this same kind of financial stipulation.

Hey, Gabriel, Eponasoft, thanks for the feedback. You too Miguelito.

I've changed the original post. I've dropped the profit share model and I'm now looking for freelance animators only.

I really didn't think a profit share offer was out of place here but I don't want you to think I was trying to scam anybody or anything.
So here are the reasons I posted this on Paid Work:

1) I had to chose between the following two boards:
a-Paid Work: Post jobs and contract work here, or offer your services. (seemed serious to me)
b-Unpaid Work: If you're looking for someone to partner up with to make something just for fun. (...just for fun, that wasn't my idea)

2) I posted this at PixelJoint too and I saw there were Profit Share jobs posted there under the Paid category. I didn't know this wasn't the case in this forum.

3) I personally considered that if it involved money (as in profit share) it should be considered as paid, even if you only get the pay at the end of the project instead of at the end of the month. Anyway, as I've recently come to learn, this point of view is entirely subjective. Tongue

Oh and sorry I didn't answer you yesterday, I didn't find out you guys had posted here until recently.
Thanks again for your opinions and see you around! Smiley

Okkwogg, I don't think you were in the wrong by offering a profit-share model in the Paid Work section.

Miguelito, Gabriel, you both know I respect your works very much - but I think in this case, if you don't like the payment model offered, you have the right to pass it over as much as he ought to be posting it in this subforum. There is potential money involved, and ownership of the final product and its future are things that can be used as bargaining chips.. It happens in real life business, no reason it's not valid here, imo.

Also a lot of people would feel ripped off if they got paid $200 upfront for some pixels and the game became a megahit.

Ideally you get both - some upfront cash and a share of what's possibly to come - that's the model I like to roll with my freelance buddies. But it takes a bigger risk from the guy buying your services too, and really in this forum it's generally not megabux VC dudes who are out to penny pinch for their shareholders bottom line. It's real people who love to make games, like you and me, so there's that human element to it too unlike corporate freelance work.

It's all in the risks you want to take and how you want to be paid for your skills. I think especially with the demo he's showing and what have you that it's a reasonable venture.

Anyhoo I suppose it's all moot if it rubs the artists you want to work with the wrong way. I'd rather keep people happy.

(also good luck Okwogg, it looks like a nice game.)

The original payment model was different and has changed since.

Yep, I understand - I made reference to this - I think pure profit-share is fine. Just saying I don't think he should've felt bad about his first offer either. My 2ยข.

Thanks Jotapeh! It's good to know that I'm not the only one who thinks like that. Wink
