What was the Vinylotron's original name when it was invented some 200 years ago? "-Tron" wasn't in use as a suffix indicating "kick-ass technology" unil after the discovery of the electron, which happened a few years before the 20th century started. *nerd*

Here's another idea....

One of those "computer games brought to life on stage" things (go to YouTube and look up "Mario on stage" or somesuch), but interactive instead of demo mode. Sure, it'd only work when you can get all the actors together, so not everyone here at TIG would get to play. But for the interactivity, you could have different sound effects that are triggered by the player's keypad and played in headset headphones that all the actors can hear.
Each actor would have to learn what each different sound effect signifies, and how they react (or don't react) to it. Likewise they'd know how to react to other sprites, etc etc. So I guess the "programming", or "script" (ha, ha  Gentleman ) is in the actors' brains. Very advanced processing power. Just not very reliable synchronicity, thanks to human error.
Hmm....  Huh?

Somebody should make a first person game that is as if you were making a fake version of a game in this sort of way.

There are a couple of things that these bits of info don't tell, like if the Gameboy could do any kind of sprite scaling or rotating, how many sprites per scanline, amongst other things.

well, of course not via hardware, it could be done via software but i bet it will be freaking slow....

@BaronCid: Cricket for Two was the real first videogame in history!!! Tennis for Two was a blatant ripoff.

Two relatively modern systems that are still among the most awesome targets for demakes:

Game King
http://bripro.com/low/gameking/index.php
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_King
A Chinese cartridge based handheld with 48*32 pixels.

Pokémon Mini
http://pokeme.shizzle.it/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_Mini
Tiniest cartridge based handheld I know of, 96*48 pixels IIRC.

I love those two! In fact, I've got a flash cartridge to run homebrew on my Pokémon Mini. Kiss
