I am totally down for this. Writing something like this could really spark some new inspiration! I also vote to start Jan. 1st. I will probably also use my blog if I participate

I'd be interested in this.

Using this thread would probably be fine, if you update the first post with the collection of people's links.

Okay, here's how we're gonna do this. Post a URL that'll collect all of the blogs that you'll be posting for the challenge, a search within your blog with the keyword/hashtag "30dayworldbuilding". Here's an example from my blog. This way, everybody just has one link in the thread And we can cut down on potential spam. That being said, you're more than welcome to discuss everybody's ideas in the actual thread; in fact, I encourage it. You've got five days to prepare, so get ready! Once new year's eve finishes, we hit the ground running.

B- but I don't have a blog! Can I just set up a thread here in the Writing forum and ask everybody not to post in it?

I dunno man, that's up to the admins; I figure it'll be fine, though. A Tumblr's really easy to set up, though.

I have no idea how it looks, but here's the Tumblr I'll be using:

Can we use worlds that have come to us at an earlier date? Also, how logical do they have to be?

do we have to develop the world (as in write everything down) as the appropriate days come or can I, for instance, work on my religion post days in advance and post it when day 18 comes up.

Yeah, my world is kinda intrinsically connected to religion and stuff. I will still be posting in order, but yeah.

I'd say it's like NaNoWriMo -- as long as you write the stuff in the time allotted, it's cool. Planning beforehand is never discouraged in NaNoWriMo -- it's the spirit of the thang.

Cool! I'm going to build a world for my game Mysterious Castle.

This is a great idea!

You're absolutely welcome to do work on worlds you've already thought up. I wrote this challenge because I wanted to flesh out a setting for a story I was already trying to write. And as for how logical it has to be... Fictional worlds don't always have to make sense in a real world context, but they should be internally consistent. Magic, for example, is something that doesn't really make much sense in the real world, but so long as you adhere to your own written rules for how magic works in your world, the audience won't mind.

do we have to develop the world (as in write everything down) as the appropriate days come or can I, for instance, work on my religion post days in advance and post it when day 18 comes up.

I'll say that yes, you can work on entries ahead of time, just make sure to post the appropriate one on the given day. Tumblr has a nifty queue option that I haven't tried yet, but if your blog has anything like that, I imagine it'll be most helpful.
