"Alone in Dreams" is a game I'm creating with Frederico Machuca. Fre is in Brazil, I'm in Winnipeg, Canada.

The game could be called an "adventure game," but we're mixing a lot of different influences and gameplay styles. We also want to make everything feel seamless and cohesive while offering up this variety. It's an interesting design challenge, and it's really fun to come up with nice, minimalist ways of weaving all these different ideas together. Smiley

It's also the basis for a series of Unity tutorials. These include making-ofs that explain how we did certain things in the game, as well as "build your own" tutorials where we give you some assets from the game and a few scripts - so you can go nuts and make your own thing. If you have any questions about anything we've made, let me know.

You can find all our tutorials, Q&A and more screenshots at our tumblr:

I'll be posting some regular updates here as well. :O

Prequel: Unity Quick Jam

Quickly building a ball throwing gameplay mechanic in front of an audience - turns out this mechanic is a part of "Alone in Dreams." Smiley

Tutorial 01

This one is mainly an intro to the project. Shows off a little bit of the game, and talks briefly about how some of the code/objects are organized.

Testing the boat out in its own scene. I have a whole folder of test scenes for different specific gameplay things.

In Unity, this means making a prefab (object that will be the same over many different scenes) building a scene to test it, and regularly tweaking parameters on the instance of the prefab in the test scene. After things are working right in the test scene, I can hit Apply on the prefab, so the changes are set. Then I can head back to the actual level scene and try my changes out there, etc. Rinse, repeat x1000.

Thanks for making a tutorial series.

If I ever get into Unity, I'll be sure to check this out again.

Glad you're posting this here, Alec Smiley

Looking forward to more. If you get around to more video tutorials, I'd really love to hear more about your workflow with Frederico, but I'm not picky!

I envy you, guys!)
This is lovely... Doubt if I'll ever make game which will be THAT loved)

Maybe it's because of my poor english knowledge, but what that "revolution" was about? Could anyone explain this to me? I realy feel confused asking this, but I'm so curious about that!..

To be honest, I don't know what he's talking about yet. Smiley Frederico is mysterious like that...
