Not to be a killjoy but Notch has stated Minicraft's source code was "not released under any license". Just make sure you work out something with him before putting too much effort into it!

(The same issue was raised on the Minicraft Android port repository)

I'd very much like to see this happen though Smiley
Good luck!

My plan was to only release it if i got permission by Notch.
Though i think it's going to be hard to reach him.

Try tweeting at him or shoot him an e-mail at markus at mojang dot com (http://notch.net/about/). I've found he's very approachable, but you might need to try a few times until he stumbles on your tweet.

Looks like you're good as long as you're not doing anything commercial with your mod (or you'll have to work something out with Mojang directly):

Quote
Minicraft, my Ludum Dare game, is not Open Source. It has the source available because of LD rules, but there is no license. (tweet)

Feel free to play around with it, but if you want to use if commercially, you need to talk to us at Mojang first. (tweet)

You also can't re-release the code as open source. So those github things are technically not legal. Wink (tweet)

I say that because people asked me to clarify. In reality, I don't care as long as you're not doing anything commercial with it. (tweet)

.. but don't tell my lawyer I said that. (tweet)

Yes i just noticed today!
Also, since he is working on a Minitale(minicraft 2), i'll only implement the things that are not game engine dependent.(such as protocols)
