Sorry not sure where else to post this since there isn't a help thread.

I'm trying to upload a picture for my forum avatar but every size and pixel amount I try including 100 pixels and 10kb won't work. The site keeps saying it is too big. Meanwhile I see other people with avatars that are animating gifs! Am I just being stupid or is something actually wrong here?  Shrug

Thanks for any help.

Just use a free image host and link to it as IndieLurker said.

I've had the same problems, and linking doesn't always help and gives other errors. I've tried to change my avatar several times but it always fails. Seems to be some real issues with the avatar component.

you're probably just not getting it within the size limits

Actually, I rescaled the image progressively to half the size limit and tried with various formats (gif, jpg and png) and consistently got the error that it wasn't an image even though the rejected avatar was actually shown in the profile page. So I am quite convinced there is a bug somewhere in that module.

there's nothing going on. Just make it 100x100 before you upload it.

the upload function seems to be broken, or at least it's never worked for me. i've linked all my avtars so far from a pic host and have been doing just fine.

Same. I've tried uploading a couple of times recently and it doesn't work. Specifically I was trying to upload the same image I'm currently using as an avatar (linked from my website). So it's definitely not a size issue.

I will try again tomorrow (well over midnight here) and report.

Avatar function seems broken for linked images too. That's my personal big issue, I don't care about uploading myself.

Are you positive your image is a direct link, that ends in .png, .jpg, or whatever your image extension is?

Absolutely positive. And I used the same image host that my current avatar is at, which I made for this site and had troubles getting to work in exactly the same way then too. I've tried to change it several times, actually, but it has never worked. I am doomed to be an owl forever.
