That really depends on the country... Not every socialist country was a barren wasteland like a big part of Russia. But really, when you try comparing countries, you learn that "amount of socialism" does not often correlate with quality of free healthcare. But hey, at least we have it here in the Balkans, and it's not even that terrible, especially considering that you can get a life-saving operation without getting into a life-destroying debt, like in some countries.
