PEDESTRIANS!

I certainly hope they have advanced suicide AI and dive in front of my car half the time like they do in the original  Tongue

You won't be disappointed then! Great care is being taken to ensure they are even stupider than in the original (AI De-made!). Wink

Just a quick progress report so you don't think this is dead, despite Castle Crashers sucking away many hours form my life.

* Most of the map is created, this will be finished tomorrow.
* People are in fully now
* Missions are in, along with the text for them and the arrow telling you where to go
* HUD Font is created, just needs to be implemented
* Other vehicles are almost in
* Mugging mini game is almost done
* Work on the sound will commence tomorrow
* Work on police system will commence tomorrow or Saturday
* Some secret stuff that you'll have to wait until you play to discover will be done this weekend too Wink
* Polishing will take place then if there is time

There's a few features we wanted to get in but may not make the cut. If there's time we'll put them in.

That's probably all you'll hear until Saturday, or Sunday when we release this for you lot.

Here's a quick screenshot to whet your appetite...

The deadline extension gave us time to reevaluate some of the art assets, and this is the result:

I spent last night and this morning re-doing all of the sprites for the beat em up parts, and it was definitely worth it.

Nick has also gotten the cars in, and working great along with the player driving about amongst them.

That's me on the far right, causing the huge traffic jam! :D

The game is really taking shape now. We have a pile of sound effects, all bitcrushed to the quality of NES sounds. New release date is next Sunday now. We're going to make the most of this extra week. Smiley

Traffic jams such as Seregrails's example above, now cause waiting drivers to get angry, beep their horns and start shunting each other too. :D

Also, there is a new Rush-Hour mode that kicks in periodically and fills the roads with excess traffic, to add a bit of spice to the whole "getting around town with a time-limit" experience. Wink

Sorry for the long wait, we really needed all the time we could get, and not everything made the cut! There was so much more to include, but here's what we got done, we think it's more than enough.

A quick note for anybody having troubles with XNA games (like ours and Sexy Seaside Beachball):

I myself have had problems with specific XNA game installers on various machines. But installing the proper .NET framework direct from Microsoft always seems to sort it out.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=333325FD-AE52-4E35-B531-508D977D32A6&displaylang=en

Give that a whirl (it worked for me when other things didn't). Smiley

I couldn't sleep so I woke early today, and had a look at the LSVS build that we published.
I seems that I made a massive cock-up and left some debug-flags enabled. Sad

Basically these flags locked-out certain features for testing purposes. All of the additional game modes that we have worked on so tirelessly for the last week were disabled! So essentially, the build we posted was a week out of date. (What a muppet I am!)

I have now corrected this and replaced the build. (So if you played it already, re-download and give it another go, as you were only seeing half of the game we actually made.)

These are the features that were stupidly dissabled in the broken build:

Hooker Mission type
Mugging Mission type
Kill-Frenzy Mission type  (The best of all the mission types, by far!)
Portable-TV effect

A debug flag that skips the controls-screen (for quicker game testing) was accidentally left accidentally on.

A flag that forces you to fight every car driver (to test the fight scenes) was accidentally left on. You are supposed to simply take most of the cars that you want, without having to fight the driver. The driver-fight is intended as a rare (1 in 7) special scene. Being forced to do it every-time is very tedious and was only active for testing purposes.

Also a debugging switch was left on that restricted missions to the top left portion of the map (from when we only actually had a very small map). This one really destroyed the whole game experience, as the user never got to move around and see the whole city.

All fixed now though. Smiley

Basically, it's about 700 times better than the bollocksed version that accidentally got submitted last night. Smiley

For folks having XNA difficulties, we are doing a couple of things:

1.) Putting together a nice YouTube vid.
2.) Packaging it up into a single-file MSI/EXE installer that will hopefully resolves most peoples issues.

Also, here is a little more info about how to progress through the game:

The story unfolds based on cash status earned from naughty crimes, leading towards the big 'Kingpin' showdown finale.

For failed crimes you lose a bit of money, for successful crimes you earn money, and more of the story is revealed to the player upon achieving milestone cash-amounts.

A few hints:

Low on lives? Seek the company of a lady of the night, to relax and "get better". Wink
Crossing the road during rush hour is a bit risky. (That's good advice in RL too.) Wink

Here are some new shots I grabbed while playing this afternoon:

Action shot of a Kill-Frenzy/Mass-Murder mission being completed.

Action shot of a Murder-Mission in progress amidst Rush-Hour traffic.

Action shot of Hooker-Mission in progress with 80's portable T.V effect going nutso!

For those who haven't had a play yet, grab it here:

Cheers,
Nick
