Hopefully I won't forget my username next time I post. The last two competitions have been really fun, and that's just been me watching you guys. I feel compelled to give something back in return for all the fun Tigsource has provided me over the years. So I present to you my game, using glorious 8-bit 2D sprites! Silhouette of the TitanOkay, I've got a bunch of stuff ready. I'll show some more later. For now, here is a title screen: ---- EDIT: I posted some screen shots in the thread. You can find them. I'll update with a complete world in a week.

Yeah, I bet there will be a bunch of them too. But it's the first thing I could think of. And by the time I got out of the shower, it was too late to stop.

You WHAT?!? Dude, do yourself a favor. Neither have I. I'd like to, but I don't have a PS2. So maybe this demake contest is my chance

Same... And now this makes three people making their first post about the same idea. Creativity is dead.

I think you guys can still go for a SotC clone, no one would object. Let the better colossus win

GODDAMNIT, this is my first idea too!
However, mine will win.
You know why?
Because I'll code it on true homebrew Atari 2600!
If I can manage, that is. There's always Hyper Giana Universe if that doesn't work out.

I thought of doing it for Atari 2600...but I couldn't figure it out and it intimidated me. I also can't really make a NES rom or anything, since I'm not much of a coder. My current plan is to use OpenGL and it will "look" like a NES game. I'll keep the restrictions and sprite flickering in mind though.

listen guys, the very idea of bootlegs is that they're cheap knockoffs cloned from the original as quickly as possible; almost by definition there should be more than one of some of these games. There isn't just one tetris clone, now is there? I would love to see four approximations of sotc in this competition, personally!

My bootleg will be a knockoff. But it won't be cheap or crappy.

Perfect bootleg name for SotC for sure.
In my opinion SNES seems to be the most suited for this. Now just add a Link to the Past style overworld map that you traverse to fight giant sprites that take up a significant portion of the screen and your gold.
Hmm, what about Agro...or Garo though?

I've thought a great deal about where to fit our friendly black horse. I realize that there's just no way to get him working if I want a NES palette + limitations. I'll find some way to get him in the game though.
I recognize that you're right about the SNES, since it has zooming out and mode 7 and all that... but then I think it would be too easy to make. I'm almost positive I can get this working on an NES given my current design plans.
Unfortunately, I gotta go to PAX at the end of the month and there's no way out of my 9-5. I don't think I can get this game done on time.
I'm still finishing it though, even if it takes another month or two.

Need a hand from the fans of SotC. I want the map to be 'fairly close' to the original. Do you think this map works? This is just a generic layout; each square will be a tile in the game. Think of all the walking around you'll have to do! Savour the scenery! Just like the original! I've got our hero walking around on the overworld map. I'll post a prototype when it's done. It's taking me forever, since I use AllegroGL and I'm a newcomer with no pre-written frameworks. --------- On a side-note, a lot of projects on these forums look incredible!

Pretty good! Though the second bridge by the temple confuses me. Did you move the geyser area?
