I prefer the first version of the eyes, it makes him look frightening. The crossed eyes just make him look like he's a few bricks short.
It's probably not the nicest way of putting it, but surely the funniest. +1 for fun phrasing. @Yigguth: when I drew the portrait I actually had a version like that already but decided against it, because it makes him too cartooney and cute. I went for the coal like eyes, because they make him look more aggressive which fits his style a bit better, I think.

It doesn't look cute to me. To be honest the black eyes look more cute

I vote beady eyes over the the new ones, the latter makes him look cross-eyed and somewhat goofy.

Oh man Yigguth, I just overlayed your sprite with my old one and just then realized how much you have improved it. All those sweet details! The hair, the shield, the helmet and the smiley - it all looks a lot better now. Awesome - great work! I also like your last edit of the eyes - I still prefer the beady ones, but with the foggy highlights he looks even more enraged now. I allowed myself to another edit, where I just toned down the skin colors a bit so he is less piggy-skinned:

Dwarf hurt WIP. It doesn't look like much but it took a surprising amount of work for just this...

And it's quite amazing! I can see how it would take a while.

Okay, before anyone does much more work here... is it really worth keeping the Dwarf on the roster?
Consider: -He represents an anonymous person rather than a specific individual. As a result, he does not have the personality of other characters. -His move list is completely broken. He's not a fun character to play. -He is difficult to animate, at least in his current form. -Dwarf Fortress could be better represented as a stage.
From a previous post: If I had to do this project all over again, I would not have approved the character. But at the time, I didn’t want to appear to be a dictator, so when his thread popped up, I let it go. A fair amount of work has been done in programming him by now, but bringing him up to the same level of quality as the other characters will still take quite a bit of effort. I’m torn about him; only Quote has given me more stress. If we stopped working on him now, we wouldn’t lose too much work. The sprite would still be used for a support character, and his moves are similar to those of some other upcoming characters, so parts of the code could be reused. On the other hand, removing him at this point would disappoint a lot of people, including the incredibly helpful Bay 12 forum regulars.

You could always keep him for the Perfect World Edition.

Good idea. We shouldn't put him in...yet. Keep him programmed yet not selectable as a character, and then when we release the first "finished" version of the game bring him back out and see how people feel about him.

Until then, he could be a support character.

The only real gripe I have about that is...who's going to be the heavy?

The Golden Knight is moderately heavy, as is Turner. Blue Knight and Barkley should be pretty heavy, too.

I agree he has more his place as a support character. I don't think removing him is that much of a problem if we keep him under this form and if DF still has a stage.

I guess...that's alright. Considering the difficulty in spriting him, we probably should delay his inclusion. Still, axing him from the current roster is like axing The Hulk from Marvel vs Capcom or Zangief from Street Fighter...

Not really. I'd say it's more like axing Dee Jay.
