I don't see why you don't like this one. I think it's perfect. Considering in the game he's depicted as an @, this is almost representative of that.

Short is good, but that sprite is so tiny we'd have trouble animating most of his moves. Besides, just about every attack directed against him would miss.

Not true. At that height, all ground attacks should hit him.

I resent that statement.

Hmm... I wish we didn't take the lead from that fan-made character set, I never thought the dwarves should be so... pajama wearing cute

To me dwarf fortress is a dark and gritty game and the dwarf sprite should reflect that on some level

Bit much on the dark and gritty.

Besides, I like to think of Dwarves as happy-go-lucky hippies, out to make a little settlement in some abandoned part of the world so that they can be alone and grow more attuned to nature. That makes the misfortune that follows them around much more hilarious.

I like it, too. Those two little pixels make a big difference.

I still think the overalls ought to be a bit less saturated, though.

Almost there, but the last problem is that his head is a bit too far to the left, so it looks like he's craning his head forward. His left pupil (our right)should be vertically in line with the space between his feet.

I moved his head two pixels over, but I think it looked better before. He looked more like he would plunge at you any second

Yeah, I think the hunched over look works with dwarves.

The blue shadow
of the overalls
is still very
very very bright.

So, as well,
are the shadows
on his hair.

Yeah, that's been bothering me. They've been hue shifted more than darkened.
