Hmm, I dunno, I kind of have mixed feelings about this whole permission thing.
On the one hand I definitely endorse being respectful and not piss at peoples legs by using something they initially created without asking.
On the other hand, following up cosmetic demands from people who haven't even created the original but are "in charge" over it now sounds a bit unreasonable to me.
I mean, here I am, working on a purely non-commercial fan game (which instantly resolves any copyright issues that might arise - at least as far as I know) in my spare time and then I'm supposed to comply to some arrogant demands from people who haven't even talked to the original creator about it?
Trying to be of importance just for the cause of it doesn't necessarily promote my benevolence and I have no intentions to bend over for Nicalis, just to have Cave Story characters in Indie Brawl - there are enough other good indie game characters out there..
Just my 50 cents, but since I did quite a lot of the Quote sprites I figured I'll state my point of view...

To be fair, Tyrone has not made any official demands about Quote. Those concerns he mentioned will be discussed with Pixel, and he may want us to make those changes.

Oh, ok, I guess I kind of misunderstood that then, to me it read a bit like "these are the conditions for you to be allowed to do some promotional work for us", but maybe I just took it the wrong way.
But to get off the ranting train and back on topic: has there been any further contact with Pixel (or Nicalis) yet?

Hm, I remember a thread on a cave story fan-forum where some people wanted to make a fangame and call it "cave story 2". They sent a long e-mail to pixel, begging him for permission, and the answer was "I don't permit that." Nothing more. Of course he didn't, I would be suprised otherwise, but the answer was pretty harsh. No "thank you for the interest, but..." or anything. Might be bad english though...  I hope you get the permission, because I can't really imagine this project without Quote... Wish you the best of luck!  <3 Ehh, do we have permission for that emoticon? |

There's also nothing much to add except speculations of how to interpret the information that has been given to us - my first reaction might have been too premature just as well. We'll just have to wait and see what Pixel has to say..  |
