In competitive play there aren't any techs/infiltrators/soldiers mostly. hahaha (sans for strikes...which are banned in comp play anyways)

and I always see jugs take the mirv over the mortor to clear the stand.

Tech Thumper is 100% better for Gen Defense than the SMG. It can one-shot Infiltrators if you hit them dead on, and deals 600 damage within the blast radius. Ridiculously good weapon for base defense.

Not as good for flag defense techs, since Pathfinders can stay in the air for a million years.

Check this out.

Gen defense doesn't exist in competitive play (as of right now)
so the tech isn't really a good class given that all deploys are forgone in favor of objects/classes that do their job instead, and why have a tech on the stand over a chaser (pathfinder on defense) or doombringer.

oh the The Sparrow is vastly superior to the SMG, so you have that secondary with he thumper typically.

And techs only use for them in comp play is the strike...which is banned from competitive play.

In pub games techs are my favorite class I just wish the gen was more powerful/important to keep up.

And to add to what Pandara mentioned, Infiltrators also don't have much of a role in competitive play right now either.
Gen defense usually only starts happening once teams are larger than 9 or 10 players, any less than that and you're sacrificing much more crucial roles. This is compounded by the fact that in most comp rulesets you can't upgrade base defenses, leaving them rather flimsy and unreliable.

Also @ Pandara: sorry about MIRV thing, that's generally right. MIRV tends to be more effective for flag clearing where mortar is superior at taking out defenses. In my experience it's not uncommon to see both weapons used in a match if the ruleset permits it. And of course, the long stretch of the game will most likely consist of flag clearing only within the current competitive status, so there's that too.

I wish everyone would just play one of the older tribes games, this one makes me sad.
all the characters look like kids plastic action figures or lego, jets are too weak, skiing is too slow, so many scanline weapons ruin the fun of spinfusors, which seem to have virtually zero splash damage so why not use a scanline weapon >.<

basically all the elements that made tribes tribes and not halo have been suppressed and all the new stuff they've added in it's place has made it more like any other online shooter

that's my thoughts on this anyway

Because a lot of the first string Tribes comp players are apparently just third stringers from other games who need a game to do bong rips to.
