In Yomi Storyyou choose to play as one of three sleeping gods.  You're awakened to go and plunder dungeons, rip out demon hearts, and seal the Great Door to the Surface.

I've been playing a hell of a lot of A Link to the Past, The Adventure of Link, and The Legend of Zelda.

Depths is a lot like a Zelda title.  It has an Overworld where you unlock the portals to various dungeons.  The dungeons are all procedurally generated adventures about going deeper and deeper.  There are boss entities at the end of each dungeon.

There are quest items.  The player has an experience counter.  Leveling up involves choosing between your Vitality, Attack, and Magic.

This is a very large game (Cave Story).  It will be released for Windows/Mac/Linux.

Obligatory: It seems Gomez lost his Fez.  Durr...?

But really, interesting aesthetic.
What struck me is that the god(assuming that white guy is you and you are playing a god at that part) does not have a very "godly"(I.E. crazy fucking powerful) image about him.

And it looks like a platformer, so a bit more like Zelda 2 in that respect?

Update: got a cutscene system working.  I'm just waiting for more of the script - a friend is writing the dialogue and creating most of the characters.

Going to start a closed beta next month (maybe this month if I can get the first Dungeon completed).  Updated the first post with a list of people involved in this project.  Will probably make a trailer this weekend.

Also, here's an old pic of inside the first Dungeon, although the mechanics have changed completely:

Wow, what a gorgeous aesthetic you have going on. That gameplay sounds interesting, and I always like me a bit of RPG in my platforming.

Looking anxiously forward to open beta!

Looking anxiously forward to open beta!

There won't be one Sad

I've recently been reworking caverns/caves.  Basically there are three types of areas: Dungeons, Caves, and the Overworld/Inside Houses.  Caves now have a distinct visual style.  They're darker and their tiles are single-coloured:

No.  But he will look more distinct with unique quest items.
Actually, the player used to choose from one of three gods, like the first post describes.  That's already been changed to just one god.  For example, this was the old player select screen:

And thanks guys, can't wait to show a trailer Beer!
