Thanks for the kind comments, This is what I have for the Apt. Building You can see the Patient Demon has changed. You'll be able to hide in nooks like this and switch your torch off to avoid monsters. You'll have to judge where they are by their stereo sound though.

Wow. You're nailing a claustrophobic atmosphere from the screenshots. Looking forward to this one.

Looking forward to this one despite never having played Silent Hill (except for 2 minutes on the original game at a friends house yeeeears ago). Oddly I do have Silent Hill Origins on my PSP but I've been too busy with other games and haven't quite got around to even opening it yet. Given my enjoyment of retro games I probably would have played it long before now if it looked more like your game. Is that weird?
Anyways nice work and yeah, can't wait to play.

I like the look of this game a lot. Dithering is sexy out. Who needs 'fade to black' when we can have 'dither to black', right? (damnit that would have been a good title for a demake...ah well..)

Dithering is sexy out. Seriously. Wow. You're nailing a claustrophobic atmosphere from the screenshots. Seriously too, that's gotta hard to do with NES graphics.

Nothing to see today but I have it running ingame now. My plan is to add a simple scripting language into the editor to automate cutscenes, I'll start work on it tonight.

You'll have to judge where they are by their stereo sound though. Fucking sweet.By the way, superflat, are you building this from scratch? What languages/tools are you using?

Hey everyone.
It's using my usual framework in BlitzMax (includes animation, tile-editor, scrolling, zooming, collision etc.). I chose the 160x120 to fit on a 640x480 screen, in some ways it's more of a GBC with NES palette.
I'm starting to worry about time constraints, and still have no taker for the Patient Demon animations (walking, standing, turning, falling down, getting up, scuttling on the floor.) If you fancy a go, please rip the current sprite! I'm thinking no more than four frames but what the hell - if you'd like to try an 8 frame walk go ahead!
Should have James' moves covered today, as well as the scripting.
Also if anyone would like a go at the title screen / SFX (NES-like but with SH2 feel), please be my guest. I'd also now consider using someone else's music if it fit the bill (free time is at an all-time low with my new job) - so if you're still listening C418 - please have a go if you like!
@Eclipse - not much I can do with the NES palette, apart from going greyscale. I did consider de-saturating the NES palette, but couldn't quite live with it.

Yeah, but this is a demake of silent hill 2; totally different! It most certainly is The original Silent Hill is a decent but fairly dumb horror game; the sequel, however, is a masterpiece.

Looking at the screen shots again, the spotlight in the dark reminds me of Where's Waldo on NES...

Hopefully it will be scarier than that!
Got bitmap fonts working and text boxes, working on player anims now.
And a big announcement: C418 is now onboard as NES-musician (it's really weird to relinquish control of the music in one of my games cos I've been a musician by trade for ten years... But I know he'll do a great job!)
