I've got another screenshot.  Also, I figured I'd talk about the game a bit.
Basically, the game is a grid of rooms (probably about 7x7).  You can take any path from the bottom corner to the top corner that doesn't turn back at all (in other words, you can exit a room up or left, but not down or right).  Thus, whenever you leave a room, you have to make a choice of which path to explore, and you can't see everything in one playthrough.

That second screenshot is murdering my eyes.  Try to make the grass less bright and the trees stand out more.

How about this:

That's a little better, but I think what you need is to change the hue and/or saturation on one of the two. Not just the brightness that's hurting it. Maybe one of the greens could be more yellow-y and one of the greens more blue-y. Like this image: http://i.imgur.com/QNoTC.png

Alright, I've decided to go in a different direction with the grass, since part of my goal was to make the art style simple and clean.  Less Secret of Mana 3 and more Legend of Zelda.

I also shifted the colors a bit, made the darker tones a bit more blueish and the lighter tones a bit more yellow.

I think it would look tons better if you made the grass a solid  color with some small clump details here and there.(a la Zelda LttP)

Yeah, that's what I'm doing for the starting area, but I wanted to have something to make the forest area look more lush.  Oh well, I might still do that.

Thanks, I'm probably going to stick with this style for the forests for a while, unless I come up with something better.

I think you may have made a wrong turn somewhere:

Progress is going well.  I'm a over half way through the primary level design.

The game is getting pretty close to having a finished version.  Then it goes up on Flash Game Licence to seek sponsorship.

I've finished the Beta version.  Anyone with a FlashGameLicence Developer Account can try the game here:  http://www.flashgamelicense.com/view_game.php?from=dev&game_id=23329

As I wait on the sponsorship process, I've been continuing to add to the game.

Among the new additions are huts that contain NPCs.  These range from giving you advice or information to allowing you to access shortcuts and warps.

That hut looks like it lends itself really well to an "It's dangerous to go alone!" easter egg. Maybe have one hidden away somewhere? and the guy says "It's dangerous to go alone... What, no way, I'm not going with you, now git!"

 Durr...?
