Man even though the alpha doesn't have sound and its only such a small part of what the game actually is it is still some of the most fun I have ever had with a video game.

Loving the new artwork and trailer - coming back to this devlog after a few months away, you guys still have such a good discussion and content stream. Amazing work as always!

Really like those two tracks you shared in the thread a few years back. 160 tracks will be an embarrassment of audio riches

Rain World got updated to Spring 2017 on Steam!

And the Rain World site got overhauled

Steam isnt always accurate, but it could be coming out late March. Snack dab between Snake Pass (March 28th) and <reality> (March 30)

The example track reminded me strongly of the original soundtrack for Abe's Oddysee and Exoddus.

Comparisons that have come up before in this thread, sure (I think I've made comparisons regarding the art anyway). And I'm not saying it merely to reminisce about old favourites, rather I'm glad that more people explore these minimalistic junk percussion soundscapes. Or rather, find other ways to explore minimalism in the game medium. I mean, minimalism can be so much more than chiptunes! Smiley

Does preordering Rainworld through the humble link get you a steam key?

Yeah, one of the devs already confirmed that

Is there ever going to be Beta access for the Humble purchase, or is the game just going to come out before that's ever available? I only ask because it says that its included with the purchase, and the alpha hasn't been updated.

The alpha hasn't been updated for a long while (I don't know the exactly how long), but there will be no beta, and people who paid for the alpha will receive a steam key when it comes out this spring.

Any reason for no Beta?

Since they were picked up by Adult Swim Games, ASG handles play-testing and QA. If they were still completely indie then we'd likely be getting a Beta to help. But ASG has their own teams to do that, I believe.

Seems kind of odd given its listed availability on the purchase.

eh, yeah, honestly the alpha humble thing isnt something we really wanted to be doing, as we'd much prefer that people experience the game as intended. you'll notice we dont advertise it or link to it or anything, but its there for people who really want to find it. otherwise we'd have people still sharing the old 2012 lingo alpha, which is infinitely worse, lol!

and fwiw the reasoning for the closed beta was similar actually. we really want people going into the game fresh, especially the fans! going in with knowledge of some of the spoilers changes the players whole perspective of the game (imo), so having a QA/beta team thats under heavy NDA and lock-n-key is very nice. this may seem weird in 2017 indie game world, but was important for us!

Originally I was disappointed that there weren't a regular beta for backers, but I definitely came to agree with your mindset after I realized that even though I know about like 20 species, 8 regions, and a few special mechanics like the skull mask, there is so much more of the game that's still a secret to even those who have been following the devlog for years.

Completely agree. Been following this from day 1 and I'm still glad that I don't know everything that's coming and will be able to play the final game with plenty of surprises. Can't wait  Smiley
