If anyone cares. This mockup is from graham lackey, a pixelartist which used to post here and even more... he's the animator for the incredible fez game!

Wait, Lackey used to post here? As in, he's quit? That's a bit of a shame. Mockup's awesome though. I was wondering who made it. Thanks Markus.

Downwards (it's vector based, it's space based, it's most definitely not Descent... Or at least, this is what I might have submitted if I had heard of the compo a couple weeks earlier.

I started something for this but entropy and an inability to actually design a game killed me pretty early. I might as well share these however: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. done in the vein of an AGI adventure game of Olde. Based a little more on the book and the film than the game but actually a conflation of all three. Also note that the second two are a little early and you wouldn't actually have an AK. Also, hah, thanks for the shout-out Rosse That mockup really bugs me to look at now though. There's a lot I'd like to change. I guess it's worth posting this as well. Done for the same challenge as the TF2 one:

This is real art, I could stay hours admiring these screenshots. There's definitely not the same vibe with modern games, that's why I stopped buying video game magazines. Screenshots back in the 8bit times were so pretty

For some reason this reminds me of in "Maniac Mansion" when you have to run away from Edna or some other crazy family member before you got sent to the dungeon. Given the experience, I think that imp would destroy me. ): I was hoping that someone would demake a game into a point-and-click adventure...

Screenshots back in the 8bit times were so pretty Yes, agreed. The age of emulation and mediocrity has come upon us.. or something. Nowadays it seems like all game developers do is release one FPS clone after another. I'm not saying this or all of them are bad, but it's not the same as it used to be fore sure.

Screenshots back in the 8bit times were so pretty The great thing about 8bit restrictions was the `how did they do that` effect of many great games. R-type and Rainbow islands on the speccy for example, were incredible conversions on that hardware. Now it feels (and this is generalising a bit but..) like its all about chasing the shaders, and the nearer you get to `realism` the worse things look (as all the minor defects stand out all the more so).

When it comes to shaders, most developers seem to be a bit lazy optimizing them and fixing errors.. especially mirror errors. A shame really.
