Any questions you have or technology to share, do it here! Consider it the official gam3a thread. (thanks Derek!) check out the event's page for all the details. www.kokoromi.org/gamma3d
ADDITIONAL SPECIFICATIONS:-red on the left, cyan on the right -it's red and cyan. as in RGB and CMYK. now with facebook event http://www.new.facebook.com/event.php?eid=23285563194&ref=mf

Awesome, Gam3a is Laser-Checked! Also, I absolutely have to try to make something for this one. I just need an idea.

Phil! You should write in the rules which eye of the glasses is the blue and which the red, otherwise some people might make their game with inverse depth to the rest!
Otherwise, this sounds about as awesome as the past Gamma competition, if not more. I'm really looking forward to the results.

I'd consider making something, but I don't really know how to produce the effect accurately. Does anyone have any guides...?

I'd consider making something, but I don't really know how to produce the effect accurately. Does anyone have any guides...? the 2d way is simply to increase the space between the blue and red channel for objects near you, that's because the parallax between your eyes and a not so distant object is widther than one that's far away from you (try to close an eye and then the other one while looking at something, more the object is near more you will see it move!). The "real" way (working with 3d) is to render the scene from two point of view (one will be your left eye and the other your right one) and then blend them together, like that the eye with the blue glass will be able to see only the red scene and the one with the red one the other one, giving you sense of deep and a stereoscopic vision... the only difference from the 2d technique is that you will have a correct prospective looking at the scene, while in 2d you will only see the sprites popping less or more in front of you, maybe you should search for a virtual boy emulator because it was able to calculate two different views in 2d and many emulators have the stereo rendering feature too, you may analyze the imagine to have more infos about that technique

I've just bought a pair of 3d glasses on Ebay for this. I probably won't even end up submitting anything, but I'll damn well have fun trying!

good point. the industry standard (yes, there's a 3D glass industry) red on the left and blue on the right. other specification, we are looking at red and CYAN here. also the norm. it seems cyan is marginally better than blue. here's a company that deals in nothing but 3D glasses. http://www.rainbowsymphony.com/3d-glasses.html

They're selling 3D bionicles over here! It'll be hard to hold them up and play games at the same time though. But ultimate for haughty observances!

sure. it's too bad if you cant come, but there's nothing that says you have to attend. but if you get selected, you do get a free MIGS pass. and MIGS is like a mini GDC, so that's always fun.

Fish, do you know which blend method you're supposed to use to combine the red/blue images? I was thinking of using additive blending, but I haven't got my glasses yet to see if it works okay.
