Shelby: 1) Matagi. No common translation that I can find, and it's written in katakana. Likely a name or something 2) Amigo, transliterated (katakana reads 'Amiigo') 3) 'Colourblind Mercedes'. Really. Geeze: 1) 'Teikyou o sagasou'. (提供を探そう). It means 'Let's look for a sponsor!' or 'Let's look for funding!' 4) Title is 'Nounaimemoriiwan'. 'Nounai' means cerebral or cranial. So 'Cerebral Memory One', maybe? The lines with gaps on the bottom are a place to write the time and date twice (one above, one below). The rest of it I can't even begin to read. 5) 'Fa Mikko Kurisan'. I think Fa Mikko is a pun on Famicom + 'Miko' (shrine maiden, and shrines usually have gates like that.) It doesn't seem to translate out at all, there's no real 'Fa' sound in japanese. 'Kurisan' could be just about anything, a name maybe. Beneath the title are 'Hai'/'Iie', which are Yes and No. So I'd call it 'Kuri the Famicom Maiden' or something equally 90s. 6) 'Hyakuten Gattai'. (百点合体) Hyakuten means 100 points, but is colloquial for 'Perfect'. And Gattai means 'Union' or 'Combination', which is why giant robot animes use it so often.

i'm not gonna participate, but i just want to say that my favorite is this one i'm imagining a perpetual car chase that lasts until the player dies, with no way to win or get away from the coppers; a dystopia, a police state of perpetual car chases, forever

Everyone in this world is in a perpetual car chase; networks of gangplanks link speeding cars into mobile cities; families live and die and civilisations rise and fall without ever slowing down.

The problem with the DQ looking one is that it leaves nothing to the imagination. Part of the fun of Famicase is looking at the odd covers and imagining what kind of strange games they could be. Yo get some imaginations. I saw it as a weird anime-ruined game of thrones license that plays with a blend of RPG and Risk elements like a cutesy fire emblem or sengoku rance or something. I didn't really imagine it as being a DQ-styled game either, I got a much different vibe from it (especially with the ambiguity of the title and the map in the background). One of the things I really liked about it was that the title says "King's Road II", meaning you'd have to imagine what the first entry in the series would have been like and how this one relates to it. It's kind of a two-for-one in the imagination department. Even if you did imagine it as being a DQ-style game, though, that still wouldn't explain anything about the game beyond its general gameplay mechanics (which in that case you could just as easily slap "platformer", "shooter", etc. to it or any other Famicase entry and have a reasonably easy gameplay template to wrap the idea around). The more naysayers there are for this one the more I am liking it, it is a good sign that other entrants are less likely to choose it. Anyways, my favorite ones are:

I'll take this one. Can someone translate? EDIT: This one, also: If there's some valid meaning, I'll take a jab at one of them.

Like, actually misspelled. And the upper right is BOKAAN, onomatopoeic explosion. The other I did here: http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=25859.msg727808#msg727808 , number 4.

There is no exclusive taking of each cover, any number of people can choose the same cover as they will end up making a totally different game.

I wrapped up all the Famicase art into one zip, and updated with 2011/2012. I did this for the AGBIC competition, thought I'd do it again for this competition. http://cthulhu32.kraln.com/misc/FamicaseArt_5.17.2012.zipAlso the recaptcha key is broken for the site registration, so nobody can sign up
