On the Progression of Skeletons in From Software's "Souls" Series:
Demon's Souls: Metal ninja skeletons that look like Yoshimitsu from Tekken 3.
Dark Souls: More conventional looking, but still pretty acrobatic.
Dark Souls 2: Normal cheesy fantasy skeleton warriors in both visual design and behavior.
Bloodborne: No skeletons with skin.

oops, i think im gonna get dark souls 3 for ps4. my laptop just barely scratches the min system requirements and with from's trademark poor optimization that im sure this game will have, it's safe to say that it's going to run like a turd on my comp.
WELP, one reason to feel less bad about getting a ps4 for one game i guess. lol.

It's definitely weird, but I don't know about unfitting. It seems to communicate the feeling of a dark world pretty well imo.

Every SoulsBorne game has a very unfitting lyrical song backing one of its trailers. I'm just happy to see more gameplay.

I was enjoying DeS until I got to the False King fight.
*soul drained* *level back up* *soul drained*
That's it, I'm done. For all the cheapness in the other Souls games they don't pull anything that infuriating.

iirc you can get those souls back if you keep collecting your bloodstain.
bosses in demon's souls are a literal joke compared to later gams. i didn't die to a boss even once on my current run.

All of the Archdemons have been easy. Allant wouldn't be so bad either but I don't have the patience to deal with losing soul levels when warming up to the fight patterns.

he becomes a lot easier once you realize that you can interrupt his aoe blast by attacking him as he charges it. that's my strategy against him. i just dodge and wait for him to use that attack, then hack away at him for massive damage with 0 risk. the soulsucker is admittedly not the best design choice. demon's souls boss designs were kinda throwing a bunch of ideas at a wall and seeing what sticks.
fighting flamelurker after finishing the bloodborne dlc was like "how did i EVER find this difficult"?

btw i just realized that bloodborne brings back some boss concepts from demon's souls in addition to similar art direction (rom = phalanx, the one reborn = tower knight)

bamco saw that fallout shelter was a huge hit for bethesda and hired some shitty mobile dev to make a promo game for dark souls. the difference is FO shelter was really fun (probably moreso than the game it was meant to promote lol), this thing looks like a turd.
for the record i have nothing against mobile gaming and there are some good endless runners (punch quest for instance), but this looks freaking terrible anyway you slice it (slash it?). awful sprite work, shitty animations, controls look clunky, bad hitboxes etc.

otoh, see the positive side: bamco is marketing dark souls in a big way (unlike sony who did almost nothing for either demon's souls or bborne) which ensures its continued popularity, and it's not like they somehow ruined the integrity of the series in the process. the actual games are still really really good (even dks2 despite its flaws), they just have the typical AAA marketing rigmarole surrounding them, for better or for worse.

True. I still have gamer friends who don't know about the games when I talk about them. Extra popularity would be great to encorage more games like souls in the future. this looks like some rando Ludum Dare game.
I'm almost tempted to start a TIGSource Dark Souls Game Jam Challenge. Give me a week or so and I could crap out some better looking environmental art I think
