I don't know if it was that hard in the end but those small spiders make it annoying to deal with. In the end I beat her by first killing small ones with hit and run tactic and then wailed on Rom. Doing this is slow especially while avoiding magic attacks. I suppose one could ignore small spiders but when I tried that there were so many of them that I found it physically difficult to just even get to Rom.

yeh. also the small spiders are really slow. they basically won't hit you if you keep moving. i think the biggest mistake people make vs rom is standing around and mashing R1.

Yeah, I think I died on my first try because I ignored them but got trapped near Rom and then died to her magic attack. I think the battle was kind of boring and stretched on, kind of like Witches of Hemwick did.

I love Rom. I love the atmosphere, the surreal elements to it, his weird design, I love everything that surrounds it, master willem sitting in his chair and unable to speak, finally meeting the famous Byrgenwerth, the cakes that are all around the place, the tough choir npc outside of the boss room, the transition to the unseen village, the red moon, etc etc
Maybe it's not the most interesting fight in terms of gameplay, but everything else is good enough that makes the fight exciting to me, even on replays. Same thing with Micolash.

Ludwig took me about an hour of trying but damn that was a good battle. Just as good as I expected from videos I really like how the game branches in the end. Now I have possibility to either finish Mensis (Mergo's Loft Middle), Upper Cathedral Ward or continue Old hunters. Nice to have options. Speaking of Ludwig and bosses I have to admit that few previous bosses with Ludwig and Shadows of Yharnam being exception have been slight dissapointment. Witches were strange, we already talked about Rom and One Reborn is not much better. He has awesome introduction but actual boss fight felt quite random clusterfuck to me where I just hacked him away while occasionally running to higher ground to avoid puke. Micolash was fun and interesting lore wise but not really an interesting fight. I'll see how Wetnurse is. Level design is still top notch though Bloodborne's end game levels feel much more "evil" than any levels of Dark Souls. Yahar'gul with respawning enemies and lasers and then Mensis with all that "frenzy fun" made me feel occasionally quite helpless haha

It was definitely an improvement over dark souls 2 vanilla. Some of the best bosses in the series for me are in bloodborne. I really like Gascoigne, Ebrietas, Gherman, darkbeast paarl, rom, micolash and logarius. There's also the addition of the really tough npc fights which almost work like bosses. The setpiece with Djura, the final fight of the eileen storyline and the beggar are all great.
Then there's the old hunters, which only has amazing bosses with one exception.

So I decided to play Lords of the Fallen, which is like WalMart brand cola to Dark Souls' Coke, and thus far it is... alright.
The setting and story are generic as fuck, but the gameplay is pretty decent so long as you don't bother with the rogue build (which of course was the first thing I went for). The lack of feedback (the enemies don't really recoil much and the giant spiders just dive through your attacks) really killed it for me with the rogue build and while I didn't expect the game to be Dark Souls I definitely have come to appreciate the feedback you get from hitting enemies in the Souls games (their recoil) much much more.
Once I switched to the warrior build (sword and shield) things went much better. The game really isn't bad, I just find that with nearly everything it does there is a complete missed opportunity. You start of with a character so generic there is no reason you shouldn't have a proper create-a-character mode and the option to switch genders. The combat is nice and fluid but the lack of recoil really sucks the punch out of it and leaves you open in ways it really shouldn't. There is a cool mechanic where you don't just drop your ghosts (souls) and have all the time in the world to go get them, they are on a timer, but I've yet to reach a point where that was even problematic enough to cause any tension. They also added a nice mechanic where the more souls you carry the more you earn (you build up a multiplier) but again it was barely noticeable and bare endangered enough to cause tension. The bosses I fought were pretty cool, but I read that past the midgame you start getting so over-powered they become a cakewalk.
I got the game for free last month on the PSN (for having PS+) so I guess I can't complain too much, and like I said it is still a good game and I am having fun with it, it is just kind of frustrating to see the game it could have been with a few tweaks.

yeah, lords of the fallen isn't bad but it didn't do much for me other than making me want to play souls. so i quit after an hour or two and just played souls instead.
jwk, have you played the nioh demo? i think nioh has serious potential to be the first really excellent "soulslike" that does its own thing. we'll have to see how the level design and etc holds up over the course of the full game, but the second demo was very promising.

No I haven't, I'd meant to but forgot (thanks for the reminder). Now that you've mentioned it I think I will do that right now. I'll post my thoughts on it later tonight.

you can't. the demo was time limited. Yeah, I had realized that. I'd thought I had it installed but I didn't. I will still give the game a go when it comes out as I am liking what I've seen of it thus far.

even if you did install it, you wouldn't be able to play anymore. it was a timed beta test kinda thing.

I think I'm stumped with BB right now. Orphan of Kos and Laurence seem really difficult for me and I don't want to finish the game without beating them I guess part of the reason is that my damage output is not high enough and I'll get myself killed in the long fight especially against OoK's second phase. Doesn't help that second phase is not as easy to parry or dodge imo and I still haven't figured Laurence's hitboxes which seem to be all over the place.

Pharaonic is surprisingly decent for a soulslike. It feels like it was designed by someone who actually understands the combat mechanics for one thing.

Probably the hardest boss 'action game' wise in dks series that i've played. Laurence not as much once you learn how he works, but he's definitely one of the tougher bosses.
