Two really great sources for learning lighting is 3D renders and statues. Both tend to do really well at intensifying the effects of light and shadow making them easier to follow.

I added a few more references and combined all the loose images into two reference sheets and desaturated them (with luminosity intact) to better clarify the lighting. I'll add more as time goes on.
