The independent strategy game Xenonauts (
http://www.xenonauts.com) is looking for an AI coder to join the team. This will ideally be a full-time telecommute role, but we are willing to consider people working part time if they are willing to sink at least 15 hours a week into the project.
The game is a spiritual successor to X-Com, so the AI will be turn based combat over a tile-based battlefield. We already have some basic AI systems in place which you can build on, but we’ll be looking for some major additions to it – a shared sight “blackboard” for the alien team to share information with one another, successful use of battlefield cover, target / weapon priority coding etc.
We are aiming for a scriptable data-driven system allowing the development team and the modders to customise the behaviour of different units by re-prioritising different behaviours in different situations for different aliens. Your job will be to code these behaviours so we can do this (a basic article on what we’re going for is
here).
There is some basic AI code already in place which you will be able to build on - we just need somebody to finish the job. The majority of the rest of the ground combat code is finished so there will be no major changes to the surrounding code or game mechanics once you start.
If you are interested in the role, please email me at chris(at)xenonauts.com with your previous experience in the area and your proposed rates. We are keen to get the right person for this role, so previous industry AI experience would help a lot!
