Levels or Lives is seeking an experienced, dedicated and talented programmer to help create our first title, Crystal Catacombs. As the lead programmer, you will be responsible for working closely with the game designer in developing, writing and debugging code. This will be a contracted position which will span through the development of the game with a possibility of future employment with the studio.

Key Responsibilities:

•Create technical specifications for the  gameplay system that meet the requirements of the game design document

•Take ownership of assigned tasks and be able to work in a time efficient and constructive manner

•Ability to follow scheduled milestones list and provide completed assignments by given deadlines

•Provide weekly updates to the team and incorporate feedback when requested

•Write clear, maintainable and fast code in adherence to internal standards

•Actively participate with the team by making recommendations on how to improve the quality of the game as well as group productivity

•Produces documentation for other programmers’ use


Essential Job Functions:

•Strong understanding of C++/C#

•Strong understanding of porting system builds to Mac and Linux with some knowledge of iSO and Android capabilities

•Strong mathematics skills including trigonometry, calculus and linear algebra

•Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and collaborative team environment

•Proven ability at successful multi tasking under considerable pressure


Required Experience and Skills:


•3+ years’ experience in programming and or scripting

•Strong examples of previous work with references if necessary

•Experience developing game systems such as state machines, procedural generation, AI behaviors, particle effects and character movement

•Experience with game scripting languages

•Basic knowledge Photoshop

•Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

•A strong passion and knowledge for video games, especially  classic and modern 2D Platformers and Role Playing Games.

About Crystal Catacombs:

Crystal Catacombs is an exploration based action platformer that incorporates challenging roguelike mechanics combined within a multitude of unique and unpredictable procedurally generated (random) dungeons.
The game includes dozens of different items, weapons, spells, enemies and bosses. It will also feature a customizable inventory and a stat based character upgrade system.

•Procedurally generated dungeons with randomly chosen room layouts, enemies, special items, treasures and even bosses. No two experiences will ever be the same.

•Seven different Crystal Realms (levels) to explore. Each with their own unique enemies, traps, hazards, treasures and bosses.

•Encounter and fight over 20 different bosses and dozens of varying enemies.

•Discover over 20 Magical Artifacts that can be equipped and used to grant new abilities, such as a the Double Jump Boot, Dragon Armor, Crystal Skull and Grapple Spikes.

•Collect and choose from several different weapon classes including swords, whips, axes and bows. Each class also has different variations of each weapon type.

•Unleash an assortment of powerful magic spells ranging from fireballs to summoning powerful creatures to help aid you in battle.

•Gain experience points to level up and ultimately become a force of glorified and unadulterated power!
