This position is now closed. Thank you to all the applicants. I will work through them all and email the successful artist soon.

Hello everyone!

I've recently started a blog which is going well, but it's not exactly attractive! Touch To Start can be found here: http://www.truevalhalla.com/blog/

Now, I'm not too worried about the relatively plain Wordpress theme, but the header logo and banner region needs a vast improvement. Yeah, that hideous blue thing at the top  Shocked

So I'm looking for a creative graphic designer to create an original and attractive header logo/banner, with an "indie video game" feel. You have to be able to work quickly as I'd like this done within a week.

There are 2 parts to this job, then:

- Create the "Touch to Start" logo
- Create a header image for the top of the blog

This is a blog about mobile game development, and making money online. You'd have a lot of creative control with the art, but it has to look damn good for the price I'm offering.

The pay for this job is USD $200.

Payment will be made via PayPal only.

The size of the piece is not reflected by the current header banner. It should be the same width, but at minimum twice as tall as the current one. Though, I don't want it to take up the whole page obviously.

I'm open to any art style, but I suspect pixel art would be the best for portraying that video game feel I want.

For example, scroll to the bottom of Photon Storm to see some pixel art that's well integrated into a blog: http://www.photonstorm.com/

I'm looking for original art work only.

So, in conclusion, if you're creative, talented, and want to make something cool and unique for good pay, I'd love to hear from you. I'm expecting quite a few applications, so if you'd like a better chance at landing the position consider including the following:

- Your name WTF
- Links to previous relevant work
- A quick mockup for this job

Send your email with love to:

[email protected]

Thanks for reading, and I'm looking forward to your application!

You're not going to like what I have to say - but I do so for your benefit and to the education of anyone who happens to be reading. I have done logo designs professionally as a freelancer.

I wouldn't want to take you on as a client. 200 dollars for a logo design is pennies but you seem to think you're offering a lot and demand high quality from it. I'd price a proper logo design process at 1200-1500 (and that's not even expensive).

Second of all - 1 week? Things take time and your logo is the last thing you want to rush.

Thirdly - quick mockup? Not really a reasonable request in my opinion. A "quick mockup" in design land is 2-4 hours and no designer with any modicum of experience is going to show a client their work at that point.

Now you can get a decent logo done for 200 bucks - but it's a roll of the dice really and it will probably be lacking in some way. If you're OK with that it's fine but I wouldn't go in with the bar set too high.

P.S.  Not paying a designer because you don't use their work is considered flat out just not paying where services are rendered. You may find yourself in legal trouble if the freelancer decides to act.

Hi irishcream,

I appreciate your views, but you have to remember that I'm just an indie developer on an indie budget like most of the others here. I don't have $1200-$1500 just for a logo/banner...I can get an entire website created by a professional company for that price.

I have a fair bit of experience when working with freelancers, and in my opinion this is a generous price for the work involved.

A week for this work is also suitable in my opinion. I of course don't want rushed work, and if it takes longer than a week I'm not too concerned. But it helps to have a deadline involved to motivate...

As expected, there have been a lot of applications for this job. Some good, some bad. I threw in the line about an optional mockup primarily to see who is serious about the job. It gives applicants a chance to show me that they are willing to invest their time in me. A portfolio isn't everything.

So far I'm very pleased with the applications and I believe I'll find what I'm looking for.

Again, I appreciate your thoughts and will take them under consideration for the future.
