You should link this shrine (http://shmups.com/guardianlegend/) or put up your own. I dunno, for completeness, since you own the domain!

Love fan sites like this. Much more fun than getting a Wikipedia entry or IGN/Giant Bomb page when you search for something (or god forbid, a "Planet" site).

Yeah I could put a links to things like that. Just need to think up how to organize that. That shrine is closed for many years and it's archive. I would like to copy it to  our site. Actually I was inspired to create the site after few years the shrine was closed. It was sad and nothing like that appeared so I thought "damn I wait and wait and nothing coming up. I should create site for the game"

I loved and hated that game when I was a kid. Loved because I think it was best games for NES, but hated because it was so frustrating and hard. I suck in gaming, I want to experience worlds they present, by I can't because I fail. Guardian Legend especially had a world I liked. Thank god modern games are easier - but their worlds suck.

lol.  I made that Guardian Legend site on shmups.com ~12 years ago.  Not as much of a fan of the game anymore, as I've realized it's various flaws (shmup stages are generally too long and repetitive, later stages devolve into spamming enemy erasers, boss kills are gimmicky, lol lifebar, etc.) but at the time it was pretty impressive in terms of how much it managed to pack into one game.

Hey nice to meet you  Wink
Yeah there is lot of disbalance like just a few weapons are really usefull and others are not =)
If there will be any good sequel to the game I hope it will be really good balanced.

I m russian and I played japanese version when I got cartrige with this game. I stuck on corridor 4 and had no idea how to open it. I got very frustrated by that. Only few years later I got cart with english version and was able to beat the game! I liked this game most on the NES.
Also I find the story of the game really dull. I never felt any connection of the story and overal feel of the atmosphere of the game WTF

Yeah I was a big fan back in the day. The passwords never worked for me so I constnatly had to restart the game.

I also remember being stuck on something like corridor 4. Why was that again? Was it really hard or was there some enemy in which it wasnt obvious on how to kill.

Man it's been like 20 years since I've played GL

I played TGL also around 20 years ago  Grin
To open corridor 4 you have to go back and forth in a room with blue circle guy Smiley

I think he's talking about the password input screen to continue the game... The passwords were really long and it was probably easy to confuse certain characters like i, l, and j.

Yeah, whoever came up with that password system was nuts.

And some of those corridors were goddamn cryptic as hell to open.  Like walking counter clockwise 4 times around each corner of the room, then clockwise once or something.  And this was back when the only way to figure this shit out was get lucky or know a friend .. or call that goddamn overpriced Nintendo hotline.

I did not used that password system much. I could beat the game maybe in hour. I drew down the map of the game so I knew where everything is.
As for the puzzles I had no problems with them that much. Only in Chi Day Story version which I played first. I not sure is this japanese or chinese version of the game. I hardly knew the English back then but my friend did knew some so he translated the text when we got The Guardian Legend.

I've never actually played The Guardian Legend. But on the recommendation of various classic gaming snobs, I did acquire an original copy while shopping for used games. And I can say one thing for certain...

The cover art on the cartridge is some of the best 80s cover art I've seen on a NES game. It has that particular style unique to fantasy art from the 80s, where the focus is on sweeping grandeur, but you can't quite tell what they are trying to portray. You're not entirely sure what you're looking at, but it looks extremely impressive, whatever it is.

Actually, a lot of people panned the cover art for having nothing to do with the game itself, thus leading to confusion and low sales/popularity.

All 3 arts JP,EU,US don't make any connection with the game really. I don't like any of this art as the cover for the game but as standalone JP is good and EU is okay.

But what cover are you talking about? There are 3 different for JP,EU and US!
