Thanks guys, just added a few more hints, without actually you know, printing text on the screen, update to the latest build. I kind of want it a bit vague since the characters cant directly understand each other, but yea, its a game and well, one built on a pretty short time budget so yea.. Anyway see if this is more obvious Thanks for playing. http://rambros.s3.amazonaws.com/SoulJar.zip

Download: http://vdzserver.org/misc/DIGIEVO.RARMirror #1: http://www.stack.nl/~vdz/misc/DIGIEVO.RARMirror #2: http://www.mediafire.com/?dj58sxdydom8dhtSource (SVN, Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Express, C#/XNA): http://vdzserver.org/ld24/ NOTE: If problems occur while trying to access the DIGIEVO system, please ensure that the computer trying to access the DIGIEVO system is a Windows PC equipped with the following supporting software: * .NET Framework 4: https://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=17851* XNA Framework 4: https://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=20914 Thank you for subscribing to the DIGIEVO system. The DIGIEVO system allows you to EVOLVE a CREATURE to battle other CREATUREs. In order to EVOLVE your CREATURE, you must win battles to gather EXP, then ask other players for the CODE of their CREATUREs. You will then be able to EVOLVE your CREATURE by learning MOVEs and TRAITs of the CREATURE you entered the CODE of. The system has support for battling pre-generated CREATUREs (LOCAL BATTLE), as well as random CREATUREs of other players (RANDOM BATTLE). You can also choose to have friendly battles with other players' creatures through the CUSTOM BATTLE and AUTO BATTLE functions. Feel free to use the messaging system on this page (also known as 'the comments') to share the CODEs of your CREATUREs. For an example of the EVOLUTION system, you can enter the CODE 'TRANSFER FINAL FIRE GRID' to access one of the pre-made DIGIEVO CREATUREs. My code is 'TRAIT NORMAL GRID INPUT'. If you play it, please share your code, I currently have a shitty moveset and no codes to evolve with.

^Glad to see this all working now, very fun though would play again (likely will, haha) LD Page | Direct Windows rar linkSlightly old screenie: Only had 7 hours for it, but glad I got something in. Evolutionary AI + Procedural levels without a framework might have been ambitious, but it works.

DEERFEAST TRIBEYes! Finished Ludum Dare (And actually took part in it too! Always forget). 8-9 stages of deer evolution.. and all shooting. Sadly I can't make web build even though I'm using Unity. I forgot 4.0 beta doesn't build for the public webplayer. So, windows standalone for now

Never thought that I'd come close to winning Ludum Dare, but my game got featured on Newgrounds and is the highest rated Ludum Dare game on Newgrounds. World domination?
Edit: looked again and even though it is the highest rated, it is only 3.5 stars, and last competitions games all had 4+ stars. Definitely not winning. Also your game is awesome ChevyRay

It looks really nice, but exactly how many zero-suit Sandovals are in the game?

http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-24/?action=preview&uid=5042Whew! It’s over. That was one hell of a jam. Evolution was a challenging theme to condense into a game in such short amount of time. My game Next Generation was definitely an ambitious life simulator game for only myself to do. Lessons learned: If you want to enter the compo, when you take your “break,” don’t take it at 8 pm and play the Game of Thrones board game till 6 am the next day. And don’t bet drinks while you play either. Just don’t do it. But I had so much fun! This idea was actually planned to get scrapped. But with all the research I was doing on the biology of reproduction, hereditary traits, and evolution I couldn’t help but have the urge to create it! I don’t think I’ve every learned so much and it took a game jam to do that. In traditional at home game jam fashion, my diet consisted of only burritos, pizza, hotpockets, and beer. I’ll be updating the game all tonight and after. Hodor

I know a lot of people have praised this but HOT DAMN. Dat visual appeal. I always like your fast games man, I'd consider doing more like this and making a compilation than spending ages on that under-the-garden++ ocean game, as harsh as that might seem. You always make really good use of limited time and resources. A++ would play again.
