Everything in the video is generated, no canned animations. Its signal-based with oscillators, and other type of controllers.

In these videos you can see how far we got with walkers:

Horse-like:

spider-like:

biped-like:
http://youtu.be/3WOSKPjf0bQ

We haven't been able to get walkers to be as efficient as other types of machines, and they didn't look cool. Thats why they didnt make the video.

"`I wonder what makes us build inefficiently-shaped human robots instead of nice streamlined machines?'
`Pride, sir,' said the robot."
Terry Pratchett (The Dark Side of the Sun)

But these segway-like things work surprisingly well, staying up with PID controllers:

So we haven't invented anything here. But we are proud of the single most important contribution we are making... which is to make accessible and fun, all these complex constructs.

Why not go with Theo Janssen's models?

http://www.strandbeest.com/

He seems to have the walker-models down pretty well.

Totally. We've been studying his models. And we have some bots that almost worked. Real mathematical models work and Theo's models work, but they are not fast (integrate) nor responsive enough.

We will still include these integrators in the game and let people play with them. Some machines dont need to be fast and responsive to be cool.

Ah, you want it to dynamically interact. Yeah, ok... Theo Janssen isn't quite adequate for that...

That Unicycle-bot is adorable.

Is it at all likely that evolving robots through genetic algorithm will be incorporated in the game? It seems like it would be useful when the game is used as a teaching tool but maybe not so much in respect to actual gameplay and fun.

We will have a developer sdk, so its very likely someone will create genetic algorithms.

We are taking pre-orders for the super-hardcore-pre-alpha-risk-taking players. The scheduled pre-alpha for those that pre-ordered is October 31st. It's happening at Rawbots.net

Great stuff. Voted for you on Greenlight, only just found you here.

Not enough games with engineering in them, and you seem to have modernized the premise very well.

We added a new Float machine for water bots:

You can see us fooling around with the tech here:

We'll soon post videos of underwater caves and submarines.

A fly-by shooting:

Remember all these bots are completely built by the players. The flying bot is a sophisticated combination of thrust forces and drags.

This flying bot features landing gear:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rozgo/rawbots-multiplayer-sandbox

Rawbots launched a Kickstarter. We want Rawbots to be a new robotics landscape, an entire multiplayer multiverse for building, fighting and exploring together. We want to bring the awe of discovery back to gaming.

Stop by to give us a Kickstart! Cheers!
