WiiU support was just announced and a lot of people seem to be happy about that, which made me realize that Unity can already export for pretty much every console out there, but not one seems to use it. Why?
Actually, quite a few developers use Unity for producing games for consoles. You just don't hear about it as much because they don't go out of their way to advertise which game engine they're using. Also, Unity's support for home consoles isn't built into the basic package. You have to contact Unity directly to move your game in that direction.
For many developers, its just reassuring to know that the option exists.
Also, this recent deal for the WiiU is hardly surprising. Unity was one of the first 3rd-party engines to support the original Wii. What would be surprising is if Nintendo allowed for testing on the WiiU hardware. (which will almost certainly NOT happen)
