Hence the poor Africans.
Indeed. Few people know that the only way to find $10 billion of funding was to steal it directly from Poor Africans.

Funniest thing about this is that the actual fixing takes a couple of days at most. No, but they need a month to warm it up from absolute zero, then some poor sod crawls down there and fixes the thing, then they cool it back down (another month at least). Somehow I find this quite amusing.

Yeah, they're working at (near) absolute zero to get this think working. Kind of sucks that it all ground to a halt from one malfunction. I can see this project just being a massive sink on resources as one mechanical after another plagues the machine. It just seems like something too complicated too work right the first time.

There is no malfunction.
In the Bible it says that Judgment Day will come when nobody is expecting it (or so says Cracked.com, which I naturally trust more than the actual Bible), so naturally they figured they couldn't end the world with the LHC as intended when everybody knows about it.
If however they tell us there will be a two months delay, everybody will expect judgment day to happen two months later and not on the original date anymore.
We're all fucking doomed.

Something more relevant: If the breakthrough is that the Higgs theory is bullshit, science is bullshit :D

Indeed.
It should also be noted that parts of the quantum/string science currently is based on the 'it makes for pretty math'-proof, where something's likeliness to be true is based on how sexy it looks when described mathematically. What we're all hoping on is to get additional proof for the omnipotence of sexy math.

it's a diagram of a rollercoaster. see the loop goes into the straightaway, then over three rapid but steep bump-hills, then into a sharp curve and finally...I dunno what the hell that last one is, but it sure looks fun!

This thread had a point when it created, and I would rather it had the same point now. Let us halt the off-topic banter until news is again posted about the titular LHC in question.
hehe. I love saying "titular". Funny word.
