Also, there should be a game with a chameleon protagonist. There just should.
Do you mean like Hitman or something more literal? Like Mystique from X-Men?

GEX had a lot of 'tude, but no color changing capacity. That was the first 64 game I ever bought.

Velvet Assassin plays by, from memory, a rule system. If you move while crouching you make no sound. If you walk, no matter how slow, you will make sound. Sounds interesting, just not my cuppa.
EDIT: Chameleon doobly thingo. Right. Uh, I think getting spotted should trigger a dramatic platforming chase thing, where you have to run through branches and stuff in order to lose the bird. Also, long grass sections and running in and out of tree roots = cool fun.
Sounds cool but the platforming over and over could get annoying if you were bad.

It's worth having a play of Splinter Source, too. That's quite a stealthy little game. I'd like to make summat of this ilk myself, although if I did I'd definitely go for like a 2-layer tilemap whereby there's a back-map which would have things like rooms and ducting in it and you'd be able to swap between the two at logical points (doors, vents, etc). I think that's one way you could overcome the limitations of 2D and allow some nice non-linear exploration.

hmm. I think using the scaling used in 2D mario karts, a cool behind the back camera could be fun, because it could allow for lateral movement if needed. Maybe in certain sections it would shift from sidescroller to said idea.

...I thought it was really more a case of pissbolting everywhere.
:D that phrase is total WIN. Also, I believe someone was working on an entry for Gamma3D that was going to be some sort of stealth game using the colored glasses as a color mask... too lazy to find the thread though...

so far as I knew, we had only thrown ideas for a game or 2 towards the end of the thread, so I'm not sure we committed to making a game. Then again, this could be interesting.
Which game are you referring to?

Ah. I see. Well, until there's a willing 3D artist or 2, a programmer or so, and someone willing to take the helm (which I am but we'll see who else wants to), I guess its just a dream.
EDIT: For the record, I think chutup and Renton were on the idea before me, as much as I'd love to do it. Also for the record, I'm still torn between octopus and chameleon, but I reckon octopus is a better multiplayer oppurtunity.

Well I believe my ideas for the chameleon game and The Cosmic Fool's are pretty different, only sharing the color changing idea, so I'm okay with it.

considering the chameleon game i think it would be better if you could press a button to change camouflage, or you turn into your prey to get close, putting you at risk of being eaten your self.

I think camouflage should be a part of the game, but not the overwhelming focus. If its too, say, powerful (the camouflage), then it just becomes the minutia of slowly crawling forward. It should be useful, but not overpowered.
I'd say...I wanna work with octopuses more. I have a good system worked out, and I think that there's problems with the chameleon. Now I'm a tad afraid I sound like a fooligan, and at that, a a fooligan who's up himself.

EDIT: Not to say I still don't wanna do the chameleons or anything else. I still desperately wanna make a stealth game with someone.
