Hi guys,

So I haven't posted an update on TIGS about Vox for a long while since I have been very very busy with coding and other stuff relating to vox, so I thought I would do a little post listing some of the newest features that have been implemented into Vox.

  • Enemies in the world.
  • Flying enemies.
  • Interactable NPCs.
  • NPC movement behaviours - waypoints, world navigation and player follow.
  • Questing system.
  • Treasure chests.
  • Signposts.
  • Particle editor in the game.
  • Particle effects can be added to character parts. i.e head, body, feet, etc.
  • particle effects can be added to created weapons and items.
  • Undo feature added to creation mode.
  • Much better character creation screen in front-end menu.
  • Ore deposits that can be mined for ore.
  • Collectable items (hearts, coins, ore).
  • Damage text popups.
  • Improved HUD graphics.
  • Experience bar and leveling up.
  • Gradient background and better sky rendering.
  • Clouds.
  • Better intro animation.
  • New custom frontend music and game music.
  • Smoother mouse controls.
  • X360 gamepad support.

Here are some recent videos demonstrating new gameplay:

Also Vox has now been released on Desura and IndieDB if anyone wants to support development of Vox.

There is a free version to download and test and I would really appreciate it if people would be willing to try this and maybe provide some feedback. As always I am really curious to hear peoples opinions and suggestions. I really like player feedback and love to hear what people's opinions are (Unless of course they are just the 500th person to state that Vox looks similar to Minecraft or CW).

Thanks.

Most (if not all) of these features listed above will be included in the upcoming v0.19 update that will be released soon. Smiley

The game is a cool idea, I sadly have to wait a few more versions so I'll have less lag  Cry

This looks great, really great!
How will it play? Is there an overal story or is it full of mini quests, or both?
BTW I really like your clouds :-)

vladimirsan - the free version is on IndieDB. the link is in the post. Just click downloads.

zerosimms - There will be a main story quests. but that will come in a much much later update. At the moment the questing system is very dynamic and customizable and my plan for a very soon update is to allow players to make their own quests Smiley

LittleForestGames - I am improving and making it more optimized with each new update... sorry if it is a little slow for your at the moment (what spec PC are you using btw? have you tried the NOSHADOWS version?)

Thanks for the feedback guys!  Tongue

I played the game. I think it looks good but I had some issues with it:

  • Lag. I had some lag. The game was playable but it was not comfortable to play (Both in the normal version and the no-shadows)
    My specs:
    -Windows 7 Professional
    - Intel Pentium Quad Core 2.66GHz
    -4 GB RAM
-nvidia GeForce 9400 GT (512 Mb)
  • Camera Control: The camera sometimes went "below the floor" and it was really difficult to get it back to normal. Also the camera movement it's a little bit too sensitive for me.

Juts let me reassure that I like the style of the game and I think it'll be a great one  Beer!

Same thing with 0.19, had lag where ti was playable but not really easy to handle.
Probably just since it's early development, as I can run most other 3D games
fine.
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200
GPU: ATI Radeon HD  3400 series

Cheers for taking the time to checkout Vox guys, rest assured I am working on many issues and taking all suggestions on board. With each new version the game gets better and better.

Do you have any suggestions for the next update, v0.20?
