Star Citizen brings the visceral action of piloting interstellar craft through combat and exploration to a new generation of gamers at a level of fidelity never before seen. At its core Star Citizen is a destination, not a one-off story. It’s a complete universe where any number of adventures can take place, allowing players to decide their own game experience. Pick up jobs as a smuggler, pirate, merchant, bounty hunter, or enlist as a pilot, protecting the borders from outside threats. I’ve always wanted to create one cohesive universe that encompasses everything that made Wing Commander and Privateer / Freelancer special. A huge sandbox with a complex and deep lore allowing players to explore or play in whatever capacity they wish.

So, who else is hyped as fuck about this.

I can sincerely say that the full description of this game is everything I've ever wanted (and never found) from a sci-fi MMO. Probably as close to real-life Star Wars as I'll ever get. Especially since this game is apparently gonna support a virtual reality headset peripheral.

Shit I spent a good portion of my teen years playing Freelancer, hope this one gets funded.

so, any guesses why they're not using Kickstarter for this?

Space was the original Video Games Theme. Then for what feels like a decade it's been common knowledge that space doesn't sell--turns out people have had enough of a break though, because suddenly again it do. It's not "the new zombie" so much as everything just going back to normal.

Kickstarter takes a 5% cut from the funding, which means the dev team would suffer a loss between $100,000 and $300,000 (depending on whether they make it to the minimum goal or the maximum stretch goal, respectively). I think they also wanted to have the community site tied directly to the crowdfunding, for the sake of drawing supporters into the community and having direct control over the funding app.

The downside is slightly less site stability and possibly the apprehension involved in throwing your money at a brand-new site you haven't encountered before, but I guess they've made their choice.

I think the dev team might be debating a Kickstarter on the side but I don't know where they're at in those discussions.

Looks like it'll be great and I already pledged money, but I was a bit hasty in doing so and am in the process of getting a refund. I think I'll wait until it comes out in a couple years before I decided to buy it for sure or not

Freelancer was a seriously underrated game and I'm looking forward to this Freelancer 2 Star Citizen.

That being said the X series has had space sims covered for a while.

Yeah, I hope it works out, but MMOs are hard to make compared to games, like games are hard to make compared to anything else. Not much chance this will succeed. But I'll buy a copy if it does.

NPCs can pilot ships and I think I read something about pets. It's starting to make sense.

This seems like the kind of thread I would have made an overwhelmingly correct post in 5 years ago, but somehow I didn't

The star citizen pathology exhibits the same energy and quasi religious ethos as people who attend trump rallies, but only if they were exclusively attended by star trek people who want to ruin their own lives and the lives of those around them but aren't into paefophilia

Chris Roberts rules through stratified levels of inner-community for the acolyte to aspire to:  even people who backed for thousands of dollars don’t have access to the test builds as early as the backed-thousands and also made pro-party content in their free time “avocati” class.

Also Chris Roberts hid the fact that the marketing officer for his company that also ended up getting a prominent role in the fame’s storyline was his wife that haha, allegedly, used to do tickle fetish vids for Roberts’ business partner’s pornography studio.

Lots of parallels.

Getting sexually horny for tickling is less shameful than doing prosperity gospel megachurch guy stuff about star wars for 5 years, imo. Tickling someone on film for the explicit purpose of somebody jacking off is at least an honest living.
