The art here looks really great! I like the style/theme and overall look of the game. The screen size seems quite small, so I'm curious if the game is targeted for mobile platforms or if maybe you're just styling the game with a small resolution for that old school feel? What is the main gameplay like? It looks like a platformer so I'm assuming running, jumping and some kind of attack? The fact that there are 2 characters (main char with froggy dude following), does that open up any cool new game mechanic (maybe something similar to Escape Goat with the rat helper)? Or is the frog just along for the ride without offering any game tricks? Curious to learn more, but it's looking great at first sight

It's a puzzle platform adventure. The overworld is like the old Dizzy games which is all about finding and using items to progress or unlock areas (eg, hatchet fells a tree, which lands forming a bridge over a bog).
The four dungeons/temples are your typical Zelda affair- puzzles and monsters. There's quite a few puzzles that rely on the switching character (between you and frog) mechanic.

Are the dungeons top-down like in Zelda? Or like dungeons like ZeldaII?? I really like the uniformity of the art, by the way - any videos/demos?

I'm not familiar with the Dizzy games, but concept sounds interesting. Looking forward to seeing this progress

Oh hey, it's Spud's Quest! I remember this project from The Daily Click a year or two ago. It's a pretty cool game, I hope to see a demo soon

The dungeons are side view too, the pic with the centaur statue is from the first dungeon. No demos nah. I'll get an up to date vid up soon.

Protagonist looks a bit too much like Lolo with red shoes. If I were you I'd make him look a bit more unique.

Wow, this is looking lovely.
The Dizzy connection was really obvious from the start, and I've only ever played a little bit of Dizzy.
The combat looks pretty dull, though. Throwing things at the monsters looks way too easy. The Scorpion room in the video, for example, looks like you're just going to be throwing things at the scorpions from a completely safe spot. The same for the skeleton - he doesn't look like he's a challenge at all. Maybe it'd be better to just make the player evade the monsters? You can always introduce items later in the game to make early game monsters harmless to ease the pain of backtracking.

Agree with the enemies. They're quite a new addition, the skeleton was only added a couple days ago. Thanks for feedback
edit: updated the trailer

Sorry for the double, but just an update to say that Spuds Quest is now on Kickstarter. So if you want the game for a measly £5, head to the project page: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/409406442/spuds-quest

Oh wow, this is still going! Glad to hear it!
I can only imagine how different it's going to be from the original version of Spud's Quest. It really looks like it's taken on a life of its own.
