Kin is a single player, narrative driven 3D side-scroller for the PC using Unreal Engine 3. The player, an Aborigine in ancient Australia, has his endurance and resolve tested as he treks with a young girl through foreign lands to rescue his kinsmen from the Rainbow Serpent who tricked and devoured them.

We’re currently in pre-production and looking for character and environment concept artists. Your role is to create distinctive character and/or environment concepts and help define the art style of the game. Documentation (including game design document) is available at request. Since Kin is a non-commercial project (i.e, to be released for free & not for profit) this position is not a paid one.

Requirements

  • Technical proficiency (i.e. knowledge of how to use colour, composition, lighting and perspective effectively). Depending on your style one or more of these may not be necessary. Able to use a non-destructive work flow.

  • Ability to produce multiple rough concepts for ideas and refine them based on feedback. Comfortable contributing own ideas.

  • Ability to work with others, respond to direction and handle constructive criticism.
Availability. That is, you must have enough time to work on the project. An IM account such as Skype, AIM, GoogleTalk, etc. is also preferred.

  • Examples of prior work. Portfolio preferred.

  • Interest in the project. Sounds obvious, but I feel some people apply only to fill their portfolios. While that's certainly welcome, please don’t apply if that's your sole motivation.

Additional Information

The atmosphere of Kin can be loosely compared to Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Limbo and Journey, with emphasis on non-verbal narrative and loneliness in the environments. Pre-production will continue until there is a solid base to work from. You will be part of this important process.

Thanks, Qoheleth. I probably should have noted in the OP that the scope of the game isn't as large as something like SotC in terms of play time or game world. Kin is intended to be a short, experiential game.

Also, we're still looking for a concept artist.
