The Independent Games Festival has proven itself a breeding ground for innovative new ideas, some of which end up changing the paradigm for the larger commercial industry. Now it looks like the Tokyo Game Show is getting its own version of the IGF, called the Sense of Wonder Night 2008, to be held on October 10th.http://kotaku.com/5019927/indies-bringing-a-sense-of-wonder-to-tgs

Oh, the Sense of Wonder night will be held in conjunction with the International Party which I plan to attend ... Don't have more detailed plans at this point, sorry =) But are you only submitting your game for presentation or will you be there yourself? If so, I'll try to keep a lookout for the developers of Depict and say hi if I find you

Well done guys, it's a bit silly that the japanese don't have more home grown wacky indies (or at least it seems they couldn't find them for this meeting)

It seems like most of the Japanese doujin scene is making shoot'em ups and fighters with anime characters, sadly.

What's sad: that they're making those types of games, or that they're making them with anime characters?

Both, and its combination. I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with either; what's sad is that it totally dominates what's being made.
