The Rules: -I (the host) will provide a theme for the challenge. -You will be given TWO WEEKS to compose one song with said theme. -The song must be a new track made for this challenge. -You will post your song HERE, in the official challenge thread. -Other participants will listen to your song. You will listen to other participants' songs. Critique will be had. -A winner will be chosen by the host. -The winner will host the next challenge.
Hello Humans,
As a composer we are often asked to write themes that personify the traits and emotional attitude of an individual character. Themes such as Clouds theme from final fantasy vii or Nathan Drakes theme from uncharted are good examples of this kind of writing. Which brings us to our challenge
CHARACTER THEME
Pick your favorite game character or invent your own and write a theme that expresses there true nature. If you decide to invent a character please provide a thorough description of them with your composition.
I really look forward to hearing all of the entries. I have really enjoyed all of these challenges so far and I hope you all enjoy this challenge.
Good luck!
Final submission due: Saturday November 17th at 11:59

This is so much easier for me than the escalation challenge. I think that for this challenge it will be more difficult composing to already popular characters who have themes.

Kilig: noun. It is the sudden feeling of an inexplicable joy one gets when something romantic or idealistic occurs. I don\'t think there\'s an English word or phrase for it. even Butterfly Stomach doesn\'t do justice to \"kilig\".

Made my own submission at last. http://soundcloud.com/sgtyayap404/dirks-theme-ambient-versionDirk is a character I had actually created for a while: a fancharacter based in the Ratchet and Clank franchise. He is a Thug: a lizard-like alien whose race was attacked by the duo constantly in Going Commando: hence, the dark tones representing him reflecting on his dark past. Gameplay of Going Commando would probably better describe how tragic it likely was for any survivors.

@Pythonblue I really like the tone of this piece. The swells are particularly nice, they are like sonic tears. nicely done.
@VDZ Thats ok I had figured all of them would have a fitting theme. Thats one of the things I find really compelling about this challenge. It requires you to re-imagine your favorite character; to separate them from the trappings of nostalgia and create a new voice for them.
I am happy everyone seems exited about this challenge.

Thank you very much, JudahRoydes. The swells would be Omnisphere sine waves run through an envelope to sound like a reversed piano. The same sound, interestingly enough, was used in the multiplayer menu for the follow-up game, Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal. XD

Damn you Python, you don't want to know for how long I wanted to get my hands on that Omnisphere VST. Your track pretty much illustrates why I want it so much. Great job, nice atmosphere!

Thanks, Maverick. XD Everything but some effect processing was done in Omnisphere. Personally, I often use it for the included samples from Distorted Reality and Symphony of Voices. XD

Been meaning to enter one of these for awhile, tended to start them but then due to other commitments miss the deadline. Going to make a real effort this time to finish a piece and enter.
As for the current submissions, great atmosphere you have created Python. I love the feel of unease throughout the piece. I also love the mysterious and mystic element that oozes from your piece RayWonder perfect theme for fairies.

All right, here comes my very first entry to the music challenge, this is a bit new for me so please go easy on me. As for the character: Enter the Sentient Infantry Navigator and Armament Primer Software (yeah, I know, I'm pretty bad at this), or SIN-APS for short. SIN-APS is a tactical military AI, the main tool for the Big Bad Evil Villain Guy (whatever) to achieve his evil goals. SIN-APS is pure unquestionable logic, a strategic mastermind and high-tech weapon and robotics specialist. The player encounters him through various terminals, and, occasionally "in person" when SIN-APS assumes control over a military robot and engages the player in combat. Even though he (I know, I should call him it, but it just sounds weird) is cold-hearted, emotionless and calculative, he sometimes seems to display some sort of obscure emotions, like extreme and unexplainable hate towards the player, or satisfaction caused by the unimaginable destruction he brings on his foes and the world in general. My plans were to create a theme that fits his twisted personality and is also somewhat memorable - the sort of tune that whenever starts playing, makes the player immediately think of the character it represents. If I have succeeded or not... you be the judge. As for the challenge, I thoroughly enjoyed taking part in it, it is a shame that I only noticed its existence so late, really. At any rate, whoever came up with it, deserves a huge kudos! I believe I will take part in the forthcoming challenges too as this one provided me with lots of entertainment and thrill. Hope you guys will enjoy my submission (I really did like the ones that were submitted this far), and best of luck for everyone! http://soundcloud.com/maverick-denizen/sin-apss-theme

Put on your flamenco dancing shoes and get ready to meet El Pulpo. My DnD character, a luchador wrestler. El Pulp is a large luchador wrestler who loves all things to do with the sea. His goals are to win the heart of his love by finding her stolen necklace and to one day sea (excuse the pun) the ocean. He fights for justice of the people and all that is right, no enemy is too big or hard for El Pulpo too wrestle and no maidens heart will go untouched by this mysterious hunk of a wrestler. I wanted to get that whole spanish feel throughout the song and emphasise the mystery and epicness of El Pulpo, the whole idea of a masked spanish hero. http://soundcloud.com/jacob-morrison-gardiner/rhumbal-with-el-pulpo

Hello everyone! This is also my first post and although I don't have much experience making video game music, I love listening to it so I thought I'd give it a go anyways Here is a short little tune I made for the contest: http://soundcloud.com/jsx2007/hoisinThe character I made up is named Hoisin. He is made of ferrofluid who's shape is held by a small magnetic force emitter that floats right above him. The magnetic field emitter can be upgraded to allow for fancier molds and new abilities. Although he begins as a small blob, his intelligence and courage allows him to quickly grow and become a true hero.
