Really cool theme, already promising entries, had to give a try !

- LIMBOLYMPIC(S)-

--- GAME DESCRITION ---

A race where you have to use the limbo bending technique in order to power up your jumps.
Extra power if you pass under the hurdles.
Might expand to other athletic disciplines later if inspiration comes in.

---

The focus for now will be on building quick prototypes and having fun with the animation software Spriter.
I'm an illustrator so the graphics will have a minimalistic approach, trying to focus mainly on gameplay and animation. (limbs are fun)
Contextual animations are a joy to do with Spriter since they've added the bones and I/K. I feel like a kid again playing with paper cut puppets. This is my fuel.
Since my game design skills are almost non existent, I hope to figure out how to add some funny variations to the sports action during the process. It just allow me to get started quickly.
I'm open to critics and suggestions about any aspect of the "project".

-
Being a really clumsy coder, I will use Construct 2 to build the game. Also it will be easier to share the prototypes.
Eventually I could port the game to Flash (thanks to Flixel) if I get stuck.

-

--- CURRENT STATE ---

// CONTROLS //
 - arrows LEFT/RIGHT : move
 - press "X" : action
 - press and hold "C" : limbo mode
 - release "C" while on ground : jump (exit limbo mode)

 - "R" : reset level
 - "T" : go to last checkpoint

While in "limbo mode", or doing stunts, the character speed is increasing and the camera is dezooming.

Thanks for the kind comments, it's heart warming  Embarrassed
The art is definitely going to stay the same. Drawing with a naive style is refreshing. Glad people seem to enjoy it.

So here's a little update with new animations, didn't get much free time last week but it should be better from now on.

I hope to release a first demo in about three days with most of the logic implemented, and then spend the last 15 days to test and build levels.

The game rely so much on animations, I'm a bit worried about the gameplay aspect.
That's why I made him run like a horse (kind of). Going back to the origin, silliness.
Also I hope that it will open things up to more interesting stuff. Inverted Limbo stance for example or an other player could ride the first player, or even just the transitions between stances.

Yes,I'm totally falling into the usual trap of hiding my lack of gameplay with graphical content and getting a lot of guilty pleasure out of it.
Overwhelming finite state machine nightmare here I come Smiley

I've updated the first post, with a huge .gif, next time will use youtube.

Super late thank you tipp !
I couldn't manage to build fun levels (sic), so here's the one I've build to test animations and interactions.
Will try to had sounds before going to bed.

The prototype was hilarious and quite fun (if occasionally too tricky for me to handle). You should finish it, eventually!

The shaky camera completely kills it for me. You should remove it, should be alot more playable that way  Beer!
