Back story:
The year is 2483. The Earth's resources are becoming depleted, sending countries in turmoil.
The world's best minds have come together to make space transportation possible and contact with Extra Terrestrial life trivial.
Operation: HERO (Hostile Environment Research Ops) sent out 4 of the earth's highest trained personnel to the planet known as VC-R to research strange transmissions.
The team has gone dark....
The prototype known as SCOUT (Secondary Control Operative Unit Tracking) was sent out to find HERO.

LOG 1
My sport finished, and it's time to work on something over the holiday breaks!
SCOUT is a metroidvania platformer game about following the footsteps of HERO, tracking their steps through an unknown planet, fighting creatures and making discoveries that only those who have survived the zones have seen!

Ambitious much?
Let's do this~  Noir

The graphics, the main robot character and the story (somewhat) remind me of Hempuli‽'s Environmental Station Alpha, which in itself isn't a bad thing but I think you need something to set it apart.

The pixels are sweet, I like them, though everything's a bit dark.

Good luck with this!

Nice I like the backstory and liked the pixels alot Smiley but I think I agree with Eigen to change the hero to differ from the one in ESA Smiley Good luck with the game looking forward to try it Smiley

@Eigen & amidos2006
Definitely! I didn't want to recreate metroid (or ESA), but I did like the idea of exploring an unknown world. That's why I decided to have SCOUT follow the steps of the original explorers.
(Say Samus needed a package delivered in-mission, who delivers it? My character  Cheesy)

@Eigen

The pixels are done by myself, I'll try my best to get it perfect haha

LOG 2

I wanted something to listen to while I tested the environment, so I made a loop..
http://soundcloud.com/kitheif/scout-journey

Dynamic rain that splashes on touch with objects. (spawned only within and partially around camera)

Layers to hide behind.

Working on AI. Critters and creatures to live in the environment are a must :O

I'm happy, to say the least, that my first day went this well! I'm currently brain storming how the game's going to be played. I have 4 zones planned..

  • -Grassy green outdoor zone (alien, odd, vegetation)
  • -Chill blue indoor zone (cold, ruins, broken, water)
  • -Dead orange grave zone (autumn, graves, mist, darkness, dry)
  • -Fire red core zone (hot, futuristic, advanced, hardcore)

Of course all of these may be subject to change in the future.
Instead of the usual metroidvania style of cruising through the game with different beams and weapons, I'm hoping to incorporate some interesting gadgets, such as remote controlled rover-bombs, which can be found throughout planet VC-R. Specific paths carved out for players using special hidden items sounds like fun  Grin

Really like the look and sound of this, the gadgets idea sounds pretty cool and that music is sweet too!

Will definitely be keeping an eye on this

I agree with the above posts, but I do like the look of it all.  It has a very retro feel to it.  I am making a game very similar to this and all of Metroidvania games, but you are much farther in the development process than I.  Good luck with it!

Thanks for the comments!

@Mono

There will definitely be combat! Whether it be you fighting or doing something to the environment as a trap, it will be done!

Really cool. Perhaps some acid-rain would be nice? So that you've got to hide from it, because when it touches you, it damages your suit? (just an idea)

I wonder how the whole thing will look like  Wink

LOG 3
My holiday break turned out more time consuming than expected!

  • -Added more AI to fill my outdoor environment (much more to be done still)
  • -Experimenting with BFXR to get the most out of this world sounds possible  Wizard

  • -Testing map designs for possible puzzles, aswell as how to go about combat

Until next time.

Looks really cool, man. What are you making this in?

I like the art-style a lot. I especially like the sound of rain that interacts with the environment!
