The Brathering proudly presents Cheering works! (formerly known as Catari).

Cheering Works! is a game about a sports fan who is watching his favorite runner Brad Harring competing in the 800 metres race.
The power of cheering gives Brad a boost: do your best cheering by clicking the left mouse button as fast as you can to help Brad in a race for the world record!
It's the great day for Brad and our fan is excited to see this big event but his tomcat is so hungry. What's he up to?
You have to play the game to find out...

We're not yet done with this game and plan to add a few things in the future but it's in a playbable state and it's quite funny. Hopefully...

So please let us know if you like it or not!
Constructive criticism is always welcome.

Original Post:

You only need one channel on your TV - The sports channel.
You never missed the big events.
Your favourite Team! Your favourite athlete! You know that they need YOUR support, because you're their biggest fan on earth!
Today is the 800 metre race, the day to write history, to break the world record, the time for a.... catastrophy?!
Fasten your seatbelt and prepare for the ride of your life!

Hi everyone!

Being new to this forum, I'd like to introduce myself first before talking about the game we're going to make.
Wait! We? Who is we?
Well, we're a bunch of four people making this thing: there's one artist, one coder/composer, one game designer and one sound designer.
And who are you?
My name is Michael and once I was a game design student (graduated) but now I'm happily unemployed, having lots of spare time to make games. Yeah!
And I'm defintely more interested in going Indie then to become an employee. So perhaps I'll incorporate a small dev studio with some good friends in the future. Time will tell.
Who are your teammates?
They'll introduce themselves later on in this thread.

Enough about us: let's talk about the game!

Catari [working title] is a game devoted to the good ol' times when gaming was quite simple but fun and addicting.
It's going to be a singleplayer game in the style of the old sports games like Decathlon but with a twist... Or something completely different?
Look forward to be surprised and expect the unexpected!

Here's a mock-up of what is going to be the titlescreen. Perhaps.

Screen has a flavor of good-ole-coin-op-button'-smasher'
Broke many a joystick on those ports over ancient computer systems.
Surprise us!

Hi, I'm responsible for the art stuff. Let me show you a closer look at the TV screen... We just have to shoo this stupid cat away... always interrupting our work...

Hi, I'm the janitor. Nah, actually the "programmer" (although I feel terrible calling myself a programmer when working with Game Maker). I'll try turning our weird idea into a working piece of software with the help of Game Maker Studio. I may also compose some music if the need arises.

I hate this game.

Don't listen to him: he's just the janitor!  Wink

It's done and the game can be downloaded here: http://www.mediafire.com/?vks51p7m6ldvojp

Beer! Cheers to everyone on the forum! Beer!

Tomorrow I'm going to play all of the Sports Compo games: really looking forward to see what great games you made!

Hahahaha!
Best graphics I've seen so far, and best laugh I had too!
My left mouse button hated it, though.

Some mini-games were funnier than the others, but eh, that's the point of mini-games, you can't always get the ones you want!

Glad you guys like it. And don't take my previous comment seriously, I was just tired because of the amount of work I had to put into it (which turned out to be a little bigger than expected - plus I got the flu just when I was about to begin working on it). Tongue

Agree on the mouse clicking part, though. It's certainly not the best input method for a button bashing game but the design process turned out to be kinda messed up for several reasons so ultimately there's a few weird design choices and sadly a few of the better and somewhat complex ideas came up too late to make it into this version.

Truly bizarre.  Bizarre and fun.
But he beat the record.  Looks like cheering really works!

Very neat game. I love the sort of abstract random nature of it. Very original Smiley

Great presentation overall. Some of the mini games were a bit confusing, but after a few goes I figured them out. Good stuff Hand Thumbs Up Left
